Position Summary

Project Manager, Planning and Redevelopment

North York General (NYG) is embarking on the largest redevelopment and expansion in its history. With a new Long-term Care Development and a New Patient Care Tower – the first healthcare Alliance project in Ontario – and many other strategic redevelopment priorities, NYG is transforming healthcare delivery for our patients, families and community.

Your goal in this position is to actively engage in the implementation of planning and redevelopment projects, which vary from small renovation projects to large scale developments. You will support this process and coordinate and oversee multiple projects in a timely and effective manner through all phases of a project, including feasibility, planning, design, implementation and completion, ensuring all stakeholders involved are well informed throughout the process. You will be working in support of a Project Director, Manager, Senior Project Manager, or independently – as project complexity dictates. You have experience in construction and implementation, with consideration for coordination of on-site work, maintaining project documents, and stakeholder engagement. Strong organizational, time-management, and negotiation skills are an asset. You also have excellent verbal and written communication skills. In response to an evolving project landscape, candidates should have the ability to multi-task, deal with change, coordinate resources, and have attention to detail. This position supports the Hospital’s academic mandate by advancing care through teaching and learning and/or transforming care through research and innovation. This position contributes to the shared responsibility of ensuring health and safety policies are followed to provide for a healthy environment for patients, staff, physicians, volunteers and families.

On a practical level, you will

  • Support project leadership and direct the work of project teams (hospital staff, consultants and contractors) through the project lifecycle in accordance with hospital requirements and applicable codes, standards, and legislation.
  • Ensure project deliverables and milestones are achieved, on-budget and on-time, and holding regular communications to review milestones, risks, progress and lessons learned.
  • Build strong relationships with stakeholders and maintain regular communication with project leadership on deliverables, risks and issues.
  • Manage scope, budget and schedule, including financial reporting.
  • Support development and management of the implementation of change management plans and other strategies that will support project success.
  • Support review and assessment project feasibility and provide recommendations on budget, scope and schedule.
  • Lead project close out and post-occupancy evaluation, including performance measures and lessons learned.
  • Assist as required in the Request for Qualifications (RFQ), Request for Proposal (RFP), and Request for Tender (RFT) documents for consulting and construction services.
  • Ensure project deliverables are met on time, within budget, scope and according contractual obligations and hospital policies.
  • Prepare regular reporting on project scope, costs and schedule throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Support the consultants and the hospital in seeking Municipal and Ministry of Health (MOH) project approval.
  • Undertake the responsibility to make timely decisions and maintain schedule and budgets
  • Work with the support of other hospital staff to ensure that the contractor is fulfilling their contractual obligations to abide by all hospitals policies, (i.e. Infection Prevention and Control).
  • Provide leadership and guidance to project team during all stages of the project lifecycle (Concept through Close-Out).
  • Conduct and attend project team meetings (Steering Committee, Project Working Groups)
  • Develop, track, and maintain project documentation during all stages of the project lifecycle (Concept through Close-Out).
  • Work with contractors to ensure the safe and successful delivery of construction of the projects, with consideration for constructability, phasing, infection prevention and control and other applicable codes, standards and legislation.

Qualifications

  • Degree or diploma in architecture, engineering, engineering technology, or construction management, or equivalent experience.
  • Project Management Professional designation or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in a healthcare setting in a role related to capital project planning and delivery.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience managing multiple simultaneous projects.
  • Understanding of applicable legislation, regulations and standards, i.e. Ontario Building Code, CSA Z8000.
  • Demonstrated leadership and consensus building skills, with a lens of strong patient/family focus.
  • Experience with hospitals or large institutional buildings would be an asset.
  • Bilingualism in French/English an asset.
  • Advanced knowledge of computer programs such as Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Photoshop, Canva, and AutoCAD.
