Qualifications and Abilities:

  • AVRCE strives to provide a thorough hands-on training program, No previous experience is required to apply.

  • Applicants must be physically able to perform duties.

  • Applicants must possess the knowledge and ability to apply current cleaning methods and practices with minimal supervision.

  • It is extremely important for AVRCE that all employees return home injury free every day. It is a requirement that the candidate is able to apply sound judgment in recognizing safety hazards throughout the premises.

Responsibilities:

  • Clean all assigned areas of the school in accordance with established practices and standards.

  • Perform floor care duties, such as stripping, sealing, waxing, burnishing, etc.

  • Other related duties as assigned.

Position Details:

  • Terms and conditions including rate of pay (currently $20.30 per hour) are in accordance with CUPE Collective Agreement Local 3876.

  • Hours of Work: Flexible hours. As needed basis, primarily evening hours (2:30PM to 12:00PM).

  • Location: Various schools in Annapolis/Kings/Hants County. Candidate selects which schools to cover.

  • Under the supervision of the Evening Custodial Supervisor, the successful candidates will be required to perform a wide variety of janitorial tasks. The candidate will take part in the AVRCE janitorial training program, which includes WHMIS, Safe Work Practices and other courses.

  • The training and experience gained as a spare janitor may provide the candidate with opportunity to grow within the organization.
