About the role

About CURA CURA is a Canadian cleantech startup transforming the cement industry through electrochemical decarbonization. Cement is responsible for :8% of global CO₂ emissions, and we’re building breakthrough technology to eliminate that footprint. Based in Alberta’s growing innovation ecosystem, we’re scaling hardtech solutions that matter — for industry, for communities, and for the planet.

The Role We are seeking a Process Engineer to join our Calgary team and help drive the development, optimization, and scale-up of CURA’s electrochemical cement decarbonization process. This role is responsible for performing process simulations and design, and the sizing and selection of equipment for electrochemical cement production modules.

In addition to technical responsibilities, the Process Engineer will serve as a key contact point for contract engineering firms, ensuring their work is aligned with CURA’s vision, standards, and long-term strategy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform process simulations and design for electrochemical cement production modules
  • Lead equipment sizing, selection, and specification for critical process units (vessels, towers, exchangers, pumps, compressors, etc.)
  • Generate PFDs, heat and material balances, and P&IDs
  • Ensure process engineering is done accurately and to high standards with compliance to applicable codes and regulations
  • Coordinate with other process engineers, project team members, and project managers to ensure design execution aligns with scope and schedule
  • Support process safety studies (HAZOP, HAZID, SIL, LOPA, etc.)
  • Support procurement activities: prepare datasheets, issue RFQs, compare vendor quotes, and participate in vendor selection
  • Prepare process information for instrumentation design and selection
  • Determine line sizing and generate line lists
  • Prepare operating manuals, shutdown keys, alarm and set point lists
  • Review and approve fabrication drawings
  • Support techno-economic modeling and lifecycle analysis to guide scale-up decisions
  • Other duties as required to achieve CURA’s technical milestones

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree (or higher) in Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering, or related field
  • Minimum 4 years of experience in process design, scale-up, or industrial operations (cleantech or cement industry experience is a plus)
  • Strong knowledge of electrochemical systems, materials processing, or industrial decarbonization technologies
  • Proficiency in process modeling tools (Aspen Plus, COMSOL, or equivalent)
  • Eligible for registration as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) or Engineer-in-Training (E.I.T.) with APEGA
  • Experience managing external engineering partners or contractors is an asset
  • Excellent problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills

What We Offer

  • Opportunity to work at the forefront of industrial decarbonization
  • A collaborative, mission-driven team environment
  • Competitive compensation and equity opportunities commensurate with experience and qualifications
  • Unlimited vacation
  • The chance to shape the future of cement and contribute to global climate solutions
