BARNWELL SCHOOL- Barnwell School is an early learning to grade nine school that supports a diverse community of learners, in the heart of Barnwell, Alberta. We have a population of approximately 170 students and a staff of 18.

Regular Educational Assistant – approx. 18 hours/week

Hours of work include -

-Monday & Wednesday 10:37 a.m.- 3:40 p.m.

-Tuesday & Thursday 11:00 a.m. -3:40 p.m.

-Friday- 8:13 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. (Two (2) in December)

The successful candidate for this role will be working within a classroom and one on one, as assigned. The one-to-one assignment will be with a student who has special needs including language and cognitive delays, requires some mobility assistance as well as supervision/assistance with toileting.

This role will also support a variety of students. These students are on a modified program which means the successful candidate must be able to communicate clearly with all of the teachers who work with these students to help deliver the programs and must be a team player. We are looking for someone who is patient, caring, and is able to build connections with this student and is comfortable working with the other agencies who support these students. This assignment also includes some general classroom support with struggling students.

This assignment will commence December 1, 2025.

An Educational Assistant in Horizon School Division:

  • Encourages students to develop and maintain positive interaction.
  • Maintains confidentiality and a patient, supportive and enthusiastic commitment to students.
  • As required, provides personal care including toileting, diapering, feeding, dressing, grooming, etc. ensuring that student dignity is maintained. Attends to physical needs including lifting, positioning, and range of motion programs as identified by appropriate personnel.
  • Ensures the safety of students in the school and community, which includes maintaining close supervision of students, ensuring student equipment is sanitized and put away, retrieving students who attempt to leave their learning environment, calming and/or restraining students engaged in challenging behaviours; supervising and assisting students who utilize a variety of life skill tools (i.e., scissors, cooking utensils, etc.).
  • Maintains collegial relationships with the students' learning team.
