This is a hybrid position with a mix of in-office and remote work. Work arrangements will be discussed with hiring managers per departmental guidelines.
Why is this role important?
Reporting to the Director, Digital Technology, Front Office, you will join the Digital Media team where a major initiative is underway to modernize Radio-Canada’s digital ecosystem and make it more resilient in a rapidly changing media environment. This work will be carried out in close co-operation with various departments and will help shape the public broadcaster’s future.
As the Lead Architect for the Radio-Canada.ca platform, you will be responsible for ensuring the consistency, scalability and future-proofing of a strategic digital platform used daily by millions of Canadians.
Working alongside the Architecture Office, you will champion the architectural vision by guiding the continuous modernization of the platform. Your goal is to support the fast, secure delivery of new features within an agile and evolving environment.
Specifically, the Lead Architect is responsible for:
- Translating business needs and strategic priorities into clear, sustainable architectural designs.
- Guiding and influencing technical decisions across teams while respecting their autonomy.
- Reducing complexity and technical debt by promoting reusability and standardization where it adds the most value.
- Improving the technical maturity of both the platform and the teams through mentorship, documentation and industry best practices.
- Balancing the need for innovation with operational stability, performance and security.

How you will make an impact:
- Defining and evolving the architectural vision for the Radio-Canada.ca platform in alignment with business objectives and our digital strategy.
- Designing robust, scalable and future-proof application architectures that factor in legacy systems and operational constraints.
- Guiding technology choices — including patterns, frameworks and integrations — to ensure all team-delivered solutions remain consistent.
- Serving as a cross-functional technical leader by supporting and advising development teams.
- Advocating for best practices, software quality, reusability and the reduction of technical debt.
- Partnering with product teams and stakeholders to turn business requirements into tailored technical solutions.
- Simplifying complex technical issues and acting as a trusted adviser to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Creating and maintaining the architecture documentation necessary to understand and evolve the platform.
- Anticipating and addressing challenges related to solution performance, security, resilience and scalability.
- Staying current with industry trends and emerging technologies to propose continuous improvements that support CBC/Radio-Canada’s mission.
We are looking for a candidate with the following:
- Computer science or engineering degree, or equivalent.
- Proven track record as an architect and/or software designer, with a minimum six years’ development experience.
- Expertise in integrating various software packages.
- Expert knowledge of JavaScript and React, .NET languages, .NET Core and C#, and design models.
- Proficiency with database development, including document-oriented databases.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, oral and written.
- Excellent leadership, communication and presentation skills with a keen sense for understanding the audience (both business and technical) and communicating at the right level of detail.
- Ability to conceptualize, visualize, prototype and design applications.
- Ability to demonstrate a high level of service delivery and understanding of business practice.
- Willingness and ability to learn new subject matter quickly.
- Demonstrated ability to be successful in a fast-moving environment.
- Excellent spoken and written French; English an asset.
Work is performed in a French-speaking environment.
Please note this is a 12-month contract position, renewable annually. This regular position is not a consulting assignment but a long-term opportunity with competitive CBC/Radio-Canada employee benefits.
