Your Opportunity:
Medicine Hat Recovery Centre offers a 6 bed Withdrawal Management Program and a 12 bed Intensive Bed-Based Addiction Treatment Services for individuals experiencing substance use concerns or co-occurring substance use and mental health challenges. We are seeking a highly motivated, leadership driven individual for the temporary position of Assistant Head Nurse (AHN). The AHN will act as a cornerstone for professional excellence extending beyond leadership and clinical oversight; it's about cultivating teamwork, fostering relationships, and promoting collaboration to uphold the highest standards of care for clients and their families. The AHN provides direction and guidance to nursing staff, clients, and their families. They have an expert understanding and knowledge of addiction and mental health programming, strong collaborative skills, and the ability to liaise with internal and community stakeholders to facilitate timely care to individuals experiencing problems related to addiction and mental health problems. Your responsibilities include efficiently managing triage, as well as workload assignment. You'll assess client suitability, conduct team case consultations, and provide timely support and guidance to staff. This will include providing mentoring, orientation, and education to the team to establish and maintain services to clients. Identifying process gaps and addressing risk management issues, you'll ensure high standards of service delivery through collaborative efforts. Strong clinical skills, organizational skills, and communication skills (both verbal and written) with a diverse range of clients, their families, professionals, and community partners are a must.

As an Assistant Head Nurse, you will be responsible for staff assignments, patient flow and acting as a role model, clinical resource and advocate for nursing staff. In addition to providing frontline nursing care, as required, you will take a leadership role in the promotion of quality patient care and the implementation of operational priorities. Your in-depth knowledge and skills, advanced judgment and clinical experience, will assist in providing solutions for complex health care issues at all levels with patients, interprofessional teams, administrators and policy makers. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of Recovery Alberta.

Required Qualifications:
Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
Additional Required Qualifications:
Must have recent experience (within the last 2 years) working at a bed-based treatment program and/or a withdrawal management unit. At least 3 years' experience working within Addiction and Mental Health Services.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with Connect Care. Valid Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) certificate.
