About the role

Division: Trotter & Morton Building Technologies

Trotter & Morton’s Mechanical Division provides services to the municipal, commercial, institutional, residential and industrial sectors such as hospitals, office towers, shopping centres, airports, hotels, water and wastewater treatment facilities, multistory residential, warehouses and educational institutions.

We are currently looking for Apprentice and Journeyman Plumbers!

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret blueprints, drawings and specifications to determine layout of plumbing system, water supply network and waste and drainage systems

  • Install, repair and maintain domestic, commercial or industrial plumbing fixtures and systems

  • Locate and mark positions for pipe connections, passage holes and fixtures in walls and floors

  • Cut opening in walls and floors to accommodate pipe and pipe fittings

  • Measure, cut, bend and thread pipes using hand and power tools or machines

  • Select the type and size of pipe required and measure, cut, thread, bend, clamp, solvent cement or solder pipe

  • Assemble and install valves and fittings

  • Join pipe sections and secure them in position

  • Test pipes for leaks using air and water pressure gauges

  • Install sinks, tubs and toilets

  • Install underground storm sanitary and water piping systems

  • May provide information to supervisors for preparation of cost estimates

  • Follow all company policies and procedures including Trotter & Morton’s Health and Safety program

  • Required to complete Field Level Hazard Assessments regularly and ensure apprentices are also completely correctly

  • Responsible for reporting any unsafe work practices to Supervisor

  • Responsible for mentoring and training apprentices

  • Perform other duties as assigned

Required Skills

  • Ability to show up to work on time everyday

  • Strong work ethic and positive team attitude

  • Meet the physical demands of the job for lifting, standing, kneeling, etc.

  • Attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy

  • Ability to take orders and follow instructions

  • Ability to prioritize workloads and utilize planning & time management skills to adhere to strict deadlines

  • Ability to work alone or as part of a work crew

  • Ability to complete work and meet deadlines with little supervision

  • Blueprint reading

  • Knowledge of current Plumbing Code

  • Superior knowledge of applicable hand tools & power tools and scissor lifts

  • Plumbing installation, maintenance, and repair skills.

  • Ability to lead others in troubleshooting and emergency repairs.

  • Ability to develop and implement planned maintenance programs.

  • Ability to read, understand, and follows safety procedures

Required Experience

  • Must possess a valid Apprenticeship card/ Journeymen Certificate/ Interprovincial Red Seal

  • Must have Construction Safety Training System (CSTS)
