About the role

School District No. 73 (Kamloops-Thompson) is currently accepting applications for the position of Site Support Technician - Secondary Schools.

This is a full-time permanent position. Following successful completion of the probationary period, the incumbent will be eligible for Extended Health and Dental Benefits, as well as Group Life and LTD Insurance. School District No. 73 belongs to the Municipal Pension Plan.

Under the supervision of the Director, Information Technology Managers, and Site Administration the incumbent will provide support for site networks, network operating systems as well as computer hardware and application software to work sites as required throughout the School District under the limited supervision of the site administrator and Information Technology Management staff.

TYPICAL DUTIES:

  • Ensures that systems residing on the site local area network are maintained and secure

  • Maintains, installs and administers network and desktop application software

  • Acts as a technical resource in assisting users to resolve problems with equipment and software applications

  • Troubleshoots problems with computer systems, including computer hardware and software, e-mail, network and peripheral equipment; makes repairs and corrections where required

  • Updates current inventory of all technology hardware in the district asset management system

  • Arranges for the moving and setup of all computers and peripherals at the work sites

  • Advises site staff regarding hardware and software acquisitions in conjunction with the Director of IT

  • Provides technical assistance to site staff users

  • Performs other related duties as assigned

ABILITIES, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

  • Ability to communicate and maintain effective working relationships with Senior Site Administration, Teaching staff, Information Technology staff and other employees of the Board and outside agencies

  • Working knowledge installing, configuring and maintaining Linux/UNIX servers

  • Working knowledge maintaining MS Windows clients including networking with servers, registry editing, network configuration, and troubleshooting/removal of spyware, virus, or other common issues

  • Working knowledge of networking protocols (TCP/IP, ICMP, ARP, etc.) and commonly used services (DHCP, DNS, HTTP, etc)

  • Ability to work independently and able to meet deadlines

  • Good planning, prioritizing and troubleshooting skills

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Grade 12 supplemented with a 2 Year Post Secondary Diploma in Computer Technology

  • Possess a current Linux Certification LPI Level II

  • Minimum of two years experience working with Network operating systems Windows and Linux

  • Valid B.C. driver’s license
