Reporting to the Controller, we are seeking a strategic and detail-oriented Payroll Manager with a strong finance background who will champion and foster a positive and inclusive culture. This role is ideal for a payroll professional who not only ensures payroll accuracy and compliance, but also brings deep financial acumen, analytical strength, and the ability to partner closely with Finance on reporting, forecasting, and controls. In this role, you will ensure the accuracy, efficiency, timeliness, and compliance of our bi-weekly payroll for more than 1,500 full-time, part-time, and casual employees across Canada, including Quebec.

This position offers flexibility to work fully remote from anywhere in Canada or in a hybrid arrangement based on proximity to one of our office locations.

What You Will Do:

  • Oversee and approve end-to-end payroll processing for employees across multiple Canadian provinces.

  • Manage and coach the Senior Payroll Processor, ensuring alignment with payroll standards, compliance requirements, and internal controls.

  • Manage payroll reporting, audits, year-end processes (T4s, RL-1s), and reconciliations.

  • Conduct monthly reconciliation of payroll functions to the GL (WCB/WSIB/CNESST, benefits, source deductions, etc.)

  • Perform year end processing and reporting.

  • Strengthen internal controls and implement best practices to mitigate financial and compliance risk.

  • Collaborate cross-functionally with HR, Finance, and external vendors.

  • Maintain and improve payroll policies, controls, and procedures.

What You Will Bring:

  • Post-secondary education in business or a related discipline.

  • 5+ years of progressive payroll experience with a strong finance background, preferably with leadership experience.

  • Current Payroll Manager (PLP) or Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) designation.

  • Senior level experience in full cycle payroll processing ideally gained in mid-to-large sized organizations; previous experience with PGi is preferred.

  • Strong technical knowledge of payroll including Federal and Provincial Employment Standards and payroll-related regulations across all provincial jurisdictions.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including advanced excel skills (i.e., pivot tables, v-look ups).

  • Strong attention to detail and highly organized.

  • Proven ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.

  • Self-direction, motivation, and ability to work well with others.

  • Exceptional communication skills. You are a skilled listener, fact finder, communicator, presenter.

  • Ability to exercise sound judgment, business acumen, and practical experience to guide decisions.

  • Bilingual (English/French) is an asset.
