Database Administrator - CS-IT
Reporting to the Program Manager, Infrastructure and Networking, the successful candidate will be responsible for providing database administration services in an operational and project capacity within the Corporate Services - Information Technology Division (CS-IT).
The incumbent will:
-Monitor and tune database clusters and servers to maximize the efficiency and availability of the various databases
-Troubleshoot and resolve problems related to Oracle and Microsoft SQL databases
-Design and implement an efficient and secure database environment for the Region
-Design, develop and implement strategies for database backup and recovery to minimize the recovery time and potential data loss
-Work with application development staff to design and develop efficient database architectures, access methodologies, coding standards, and quality assurance procedures
-Work with individuals across the organization to build requirements and architect solutions to support business processes
-Design and maintain database security by controlling and monitoring access to the servers and databases
-Design, implement and manage performance monitoring for the database and application infrastructure
-Participate in establishing project plans and estimating work
-Create and maintain effective system documentation
-Maintain personal currency with available technologies
The successful applicant will possess:
-A three year bachelor degree in Computer Science or a related discipline, or equivalent combination of education and experience
-A Microsoft or Oracle certification related to database administration would be an asset
-Several years relevant experience in database administration (Oracle and Microsoft SQL) combined with Windows systems administration experience
-Several years' experience in database design and programming, working on a variety of operating systems and platforms
-Expertise in capacity planning, indexes, PL/SQL, SQL optimization, partitioning, managing and maintaining databases, user accounts, database availability, recovery, and reporting
-Hands-on database tuning and troubleshooting experience
-Sound knowledge of relational database design standards and systems analysis and design methodologies, physical and logical design, data modeling, and database security
-Solid understanding of Windows and knowledge of Linux
-Experience in Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) processes
-Capacity to validate a physical model of data
-Superior project management and organizational skills
-Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
-An open and respectful approach to engaging colleagues with diverse perspectives
-Demonstrated ability to work in a team-oriented and collaborative environment
CUPE 1764 Salary Grade 8Q
This position is within Salary Grade 8Q and will be paid at the following rates:
- Start: $61.86 - Six Month: $65.29 - Job: $68.73
