We lead the development of government-wide policies, strategies, and partnerships with Indigenous organizations, governments, and industry to support strong, vibrant Indigenous communities and people who fully participate in a prosperous, competitive and diverse Alberta.   The Métis landscape in Alberta includes the Metis Settlements, the Metis Settlements General Council, Credibly Asserted Métis Communities, the Métis Nation of Alberta and other independent Métis communities.   The Alberta government’s Métis Relations branch works to strengthen relationships between provincial departments and Métis communities. It supports policy development, engagement and collaboration on initiatives that advance Métis interests, including emergency response, economic participation and cultural preservation.   For further information, visit the ministry website: Métis Relations | Alberta.ca     Role Reporting to the Assistant Deputy Minister, First Nations and Métis Relations, the Executive Director is responsible for the overall management and strategic direction of the Métis Relations Branch, including the Métis Relations, Métis Settlements Land Registry, and Métis Settlements Appeal Tribunal work units. The role provides leadership in the development and implementation of plans, programs, policies, and agreements that support the socio-economic well-being of Métis people in Alberta. As a strategic leader, the Executive Director will oversee the negotiation and implementation of formal agreements, lead cross-ministry initiatives, and ensure Métis perspectives are reflected in government decision-making. The position also provides oversight of branch operations and related services while advancing key Métis priorities across the province. Success in this role requires building and maintaining effective relationships with stakeholders, including the Métis Settlements General Council, the Métis Nation of Alberta, government partners, communities, and related organizations. The Executive Director will provide strategic advice and recommendations to senior leadership and, through strong collaboration, communication, and stakeholder engagement, support progress on Métis priorities throughout Alberta.     Qualifications A proven strategic leader, you bring extensive senior management experience leading teams in complex and dynamic environments. Experience working with Indigenous communities, associations, and organizations, along with a strong understanding of Indigenous issues, particularly those affecting Métis people and communities. You possess strong skills in collaboration, stakeholder engagement, negotiation, strategic planning, conflict resolution, and financial management. You are politically astute and have a proven ability to build trusted relationships. Knowledge of provincial and federal government priorities, policies, operations, and programs, as well as Métis governance, communities, culture, and protocols, is considered an asset. Established relationships with Métis communities and Métis Settlements in Alberta, coupled with the ability to understand and respect diverse perspectives and cultural values, will contribute to your success in this role.   Bachelor’s degree in business administration, Indigenous Studies, social sciences or political sciences.     Salary $5,896.65 - $7,749.28 bi-weekly ($153,902.57 - $202,256.21 annually)    Notes Final candidates will be required to undergo a security screening.   Links and information on what the GoA has to offer:
