MacLean Engineering is looking for a Product Engineering Manager to join our growing Engineering team supporting the Environmental Division. This is a replacement position.
This is a great opportunity to be part of a growing team, focused on designing and manufacturing recycling equipment for customers in North America and Internationally.
About the Position: Reporting to the Vice President of Engineering, the Product Engineering Manager position is responsible for the overall technical execution of their product line through the leadership and management of their product teams. It relies on strong communication with other departments that contribute to the success of the end-product.
Specific tasks for the Product Engineering Manager position include but may not be limited to:
- Forecast, review and assess the new capital quotes/orders information for technical compliance, new options or combinations, long lead components and other factors that will influence the scheduling of work to ensure objectives above are met. This may include the need for travel to meet with customers where required to gain the necessary clarity.
- Assist Product Manager to develop quotations, participate in sales calls, guide technical conversations with the customer and update equipment pricing.
- Support prospects/customers with HazPak technical documentation that is requested during the regulatory and permitting process, often alongside an outside consultant.
- Monitor and report new design project status (% complete, schedule creep, risk level and mitigation plan and communicate this both within the product team, internal customers and external customers to confirm if all technical and schedule requirements are on track and direct any recovery plans as needed where deviations have occurred).
- Lead the design process for each unique installation by understanding customer requirements, finalizing equipment layouts and obtaining customer approval prior to detail design. Maintain ongoing communication with the customer throughout the project to identify any changes, prevent scope creep and ensure these changes are communicated with the team.
- Monitor the release of the Bill of Materials (BOM) such that new capital orders are entered into the manufacturing process on schedule and free of errors/omissions.
- Review final builds prior to delivery. Oversee the installation and commissioning process through remote or on-site support. Assist installation contractors during technical discussions.
- Organize and execute continuous improvements to the product line in a manner that enhances technical support, documentation and internal communication.
- Where expertise in a particular area of technology exists, this position will offer experienced mentorship to others where such knowledge will benefit the success of the entire team.
- Continuously assess the skills and capacity of the product team and make recommendations to the department manager for any necessary changes or improvements.
- Participate in the procurement process to identify local suppliers and communicate technical requirements. Monitor component delivery and ensure the delivered product is technically accurate through review of drawings & testing documentation.
About You: The successful candidate(s) must be willing to learn, open-minded and flexible, organized, team oriented, disciplined, and must have a positive attitude. Ideally you will have had experience working within a similar metal fabrication, heavy equipment assembly environment, and you possess the majority or all of the following qualifications:
Those qualified for this position should be capable of demonstrating the following qualifications:
- Mechanical, Electrical or Industrial Engineering Degree from a recognized post secondary institution
- Licensed through PEO to be responsible for professional engineering activities is required
- Seven (7) plus years’ experience in the design and/or manufacturing of industrial equipment
- Preferred Three (3) plus years’ experience in the management of project teams or departments with multiple disciplines including mechanical, hydraulic and electrical
- Environmental waste experience including paints, aerosols, hazardous waste is an asset
- Application/field knowledge of the demands placed on equipment is a significant asset
- Working knowledge of applicable CSA, NFPA and ISO standards is required
- Extensive technical knowledge in one or more major engineering fields (mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, structural (including knowledge of components and theory) Strong ability to read and interpret regulatory design and customer standards that- to mobile and/or industrial equipment (e.g. ASME Pressure Vessel Code, ATEX Standards, OHSA and other Health and Safety Regulations)
- Manufacturing experience including fabrication and assembly processes, factory installation and automation experience including piping, primary design and start up is an asset
- Completion of courses in supervision and management of employees is an asset
- Environmental waste experience including paints, aerosols, hazardous waste is an asset
- Ability to communicate both verbally and in writing with all levels of the organization and customers and resolve technical issues
- Proficient utilizing 2D and 3D CAD software (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Simulation/FEA) for the purpose of reviewing designs prepared by the team and demonstrations for internal or external customers
- High level of computer literacy and proficiency with MS Office
- Multi-language skills considered a significant asset
- Must possess a valid driver’s license, a valid passport and must be willing to be able to travel periodically throughout North America and Internationally
