Location: County Central High School

Anticipated Start Date: October 20, 2025 (or date mutually agreeable)

End Date: August 31, 2026 (or return of incumbent)

Assignment: Caretaker

FTE: 1.0 (40 hour/week)

County Central High School, operating in Vulcan, AB, invites enthusiastic individuals to apply for the Full-Time Caretaker position starting October 20, 2025. The program at CCHS is best described as primarily academically focused with an extensive Career and Technology Studies component. A full range of complementary courses for both junior and senior high is offered as well. County Central students have continually achieved at a very high level on Provincial Achievement Tests and Diploma Exams.

This full-time position runs from 1:30 pm to 10:00 pm, Monday-Thursday and 9:30 am until 6:00 pm on Friday and school Professional Development days (break is 30 minutes from 12:00 to 12:30 pm). During Easter, Christmas Reading Week, and Summer, the shift runs from 7:30 am to 4:00 pm (break is 30 minutes).

This position includes (but is not limited to) duties such as dusting, damp mopping floors, vacuuming, cleaning washrooms, fixtures and partitions, washing desks, counters and doors, windows, cleaning blackboards and ledges and other related duties as assigned. Some heavy lifting may be required. Pay range is $22.00/hr to $24.00/hr, dependent on experience.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma
  • Minimum of 2 years related experience
  • Related custodial training
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills

Demonstrated Skills and Competencies:

  • Demonstrated ability to perform all custodial functions
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and ability to effectively operate heating and mechanical systems
  • Demonstrated knowledge of cleaning products and disinfecting procedures
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and ability to effectively operate and perform minor routine maintenance on all power equipment
  • Demonstrated knowledge of health and safety, fire and security protocols
  • Demonstrated knowledge of safe chemical management practices
  • Demonstrated knowledge of basic spill clean-up procedures for blood spills and minor chemical spills
  • Demonstrated ability to plan and organize
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of the position
  • Proven ability to mentor, supervise, and train custodial staff
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to use a variety of Division software programs
  • Successful Criminal Reference Check, including vulnerable sectors (within 3 months of contract start date).

The Palliser Regional Schools is a school jurisdiction located in southern Alberta. The geographical area stretches from just south of Lethbridge to the Bow River south of Calgary. Palliser Centre houses the Central Office Administration, Maintenance and Transportation Services and is located in the City of Lethbridge. In addition, a satellite Maintenance Shop has been set up in the Town of Vulcan. The division offers full public education services to approximately 8,1000 students from early childhood services through Grade 12. Palliser has 15 community schools, 17 Hutterian colony schools, 10 Christian alternative schools, nine of which are in Calgary on seven different campuses, four outreach programs, an online school, and two dedicated Low German Mennonite alternative programs. One of our outreach schools and a junior high in one of our community schools also serve the LGM community.
