Temporary Journeyperson or Apprentice Water Engineering Technologist
(Hourly Rate $39.55 - $43.94)
Location: Windsor, ON
Reporting to the Supervisor Capital Projects, the successful applicant will be responsible for protecting the quality and integrity of the existing water distribution system by overseeing and inspecting all facets of new watermain capital works projects and associated work in the City of Windsor. The duties include but are not limited to: performing site inspections on all ongoing projects and contract work; recording project quantities for monthly progress payments, monitoring daily chlorine residuals, reporting Adverse Water Quality Incidents and operating valves and hydrants, and performing watermain/water service locating and repairs as required; providing on-site technical support and direction as required; compiling and recording data related to site activities, anomalies and progress; sketching, preparing and distributing project testing schematic diagrams and co-ordinating scheduling; preparing necessary engineering data, quantity and cost estimates, contract documents and designs for new watermain construction; assisting Geomatics Technicians as required.
Hours of work will be 7:30am – 3:30pm.
The successful applicant must possess the following qualifications:
- Three (3) year Civil or Mechanical Engineering Technologist diploma from a recognized Community College, and/or recognized OACETT CET Certification (Civil or Mechanical), or other related discipline, with more than 3 years of similar or related experience, preferably in Watermain Construction Inspection, OR, a two (2) year Civil or Mechanical Engineering Technician Diploma from a recognized Community College, and/or OACETT CTech Certification (Civil or Mechanical), or other related discipline, with more than 5 years of similar or related experience, preferably in Watermain Construction Inspection.
- Water Distribution Operator Licence Level 1 – Ontario Drinking Water Operator Certificate is required to be fully qualified.
- Water Distribution Subsystem Operator-in-Training (OIT) Certificate is considered an asset.
- Ability to read and interpret industry standard construction drawings, specifications, documentation and practices and procedures.
- Familiarity with ENWIN/WUC, City of Windsor and construction industry standards, regulations as well as job costs/tendering practices and procedures.
- Familiarity with varying tools and technology used to capture necessary job information (i.e. still/video camera, Trimble R12i GPS data collector, Enterprise Software, etc.) for as-built records and payment certificates.
- Excellent knowledge of AutoCAD, Excel, SAP, ESRI and Microsoft Outlook systems.
- Leadership, project management skills and organizational ability are required.
- Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with co-workers, other departments and the public.
- Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision.
- Valid Class "G" driver's licence.
The Apprentice Water Engineering Technologist position involves successful completion of a 4,000 hour apprenticeship program. The successful candidate will be expected to meet a minimum standard which includes successful attainment of the Water Distribution Operator Licence Level 1 – Ontario Drinking Water Operator Certificate. Duties will become progressively greater with each phase of practical experience and training. Progression within the classification will depend on satisfactory performance on the job and successful completion of the Water Engineering Technologist apprenticeship training objectives.
