SCOPE
Reporting to the Manager, Access Center for Students with Disabilities (ACSD), the incumbent coordinates the Accommodated Exams Program for students with disabilities.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Coordinate the overall process concerning accommodated exams held on both Sir George Williams and Loyola Campuses. Identify and resolve student and faculty issues concerning the administration of the examinations as well as adaptive technology issues associated with or related to exams.

  • Maintain liaison between the ACSD, the University Exams Office, professors and faculty departments regarding Special exams.
  • Assess students’ ability to use the assistive technology recommended by the ACSD Advisor during exams. Ensure exams are converted, in an appropriate and timely manner, into alternate l formats and are available to students. Ensure that equipment and software are available and in good order on both campuses.
  • Train and oversee the tasks of the invigilators.
  • Inform students with disabilities of university accommodated exam procedures. Inform students how to apply for medical-deferral, replacement and supplemental exams and how to proceed during an emergency situation.
  • Produce term reports for Faculties and an annual report on the Accommodated Exams Program.
  • For in person exams, verify exam packages to be returned to professors upon completion. Organize exam rooms. File and organize exams records.
  • Follow-up with professors about incomplete exam information. Confirm the academic requirements of any given exam to maintain academic integrity.
  • Liaison with CTL and the Exam office on any relevant exams related information as it relates to ACSD.
  • Perform other duties in support of the operation of the unit.

REQUIREMENTS
• Diploma of Collegial Studies (two-year pre-university DEC) and four to seven years of related work experience.

• Good knowledge (Level 4) of spoken and written English in order to communicate effectively with faculty and students; basic knowledge (Level 3) of spoken French.

• Knowledge of additional languages is an asset.

• Good knowledge (Intermediate level) of Excel; basic knowledge of Access and Word; ability to learn adaptive technology.

• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to deal sensitively with students and faculty.

• Client-focused with a strong desire to resolve delicate situations.

• Approachability (is sensitive and patient with others) and composure (is a calming influence in a difficult situation).

• Keen attention to detail and ability to multi-task.

• Good understanding of disability-related issues.

• Aptitude to work in a service-oriented environment as both a member of a team and independently.

• Ability to work outside normal operating hours during the final examinations periods.

• Knowledge of adaptive/assistive software such as Kurzweil, Jaws, etc. (in order to adapt exams received electronically into alternate media) is an asset.

• Interest in developing skills in adaptive/assistive software is desirable.
