JOB SUMMARY: Lantic is currently recruiting for the position of Team Leader, Quality/Food Safety/Environment to join our night shift team at our Montreal refinery. Reporting to the Quality/Food Safety & Environment Manager, the incumbent is responsible for planning, organizing, controlling, and evaluating team activities to ensure that processing and finished products meet established standards and specifications. He/she is involved in various programs associated with the Quality, Food Safety and Environment department to ensure product safety, quality, and reliability, while adhering to applicable occupational health and safety regulations, good operating practices, and food safety standards.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Promote and enforce health and safety in the workplace, ensuring the physical well-being of laboratory technicians; conduct sector-specific visits with the OHS representative and implement corrective measures;
  • Ensure the effective management of quality technicians by participating in interviews and hiring, training technicians and operators in analytical methods, and providing the necessary technical support to achieve high levels of productivity while adhering to quality standards;
  • Maintain positive working relationships and administer the collective agreement to foster and maintain a positive work environment;
  • Make decisions regarding product disposal in cases of non-conformity and provide the necessary support to operations;
  • Serve as a key player in the department for decision-making and crisis management; coordinate the necessary resources during emergencies;
  • Support the Quality/Food Safety & Environment Manager in the department's operations, act as her replacement during her absences, and ensure the smooth running of the department;
  • Work closely with the day shift Quality Team Leader and Team Leaders of other departments, and provide the necessary technical support;
  • Manage the quality/food safety impact of new projects by developing analytical methods, ensuring that the necessary resources are available for project implementation and follow-up with the various stakeholders;
  • Ensure the performance, consistency, and improvement of the laboratory by monitoring instrument calibration, following the sampling plan, and implementing efficient work methods;
  • Prepare the budget & ensure rigorous departmental budgetary control;
  • Administer employee payroll in the Kronos system. Publish and update the team schedule to meet the laboratory's needs;
  • Conduct inspections related to the fleet of railcars;
  • Collaborate closely with quality coordinators/technicians to respond to internal requests, regulatory requirements and actively participate in internal and external audits.

QUALIFICATIONS AND PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Science, Food Technology, or equivalent;
  • Minimum of five (5) to seven (7) years of experience in a similar position;
  • Experience in personnel management within a unionized environment;
  • Member of the Order of Chemists;
  • Knowledge of FSSC and HACCP requirements;
  • Bilingualism in French and English (spoken and written) to communicate with our French- and English-speaking sites;
  • Strong organizational and planning skills;
  • Strong problem-solving, conflict management, and change management skills;
  • Excellent decision-making, communication, and interpersonal skills; strong teamwork, listening, and leadership skills;
  • Ability to influence, motivate, and mentor;
