Online Grade 10-12 Educator (Learning Consultant)

Summary of the Opportunity:

SelfDesign Learning Community, a Provincial Online Learning School-Independent with the B.C. Ministry of Education and Child Care has an immediate need for online grade 10-12 educators (called Learning Consultants) for the 2025-26 learning year.

We welcome applications from B.C. certified teachers with a background in grades 10-12, and a desire to work in a unique online learning environment in support of grades 10-12 learners. There are part-time opportunities available.

SelfDesign enables learners in grades K-12 to explore their passions and take the lead in their own learning and life. Our B.C. certified educators are called Learning Consultants (LCs).

LCs working with grades 10-12 have weekly communication with learners regarding progress towards learning goals and assist learners in deepening/developing their interests. In addition, LCs maintain educator records to inform seasonal assessments, support learner self-assessment, and collaborate with other educators (learning specialists), as needed.

Work Environment:

We are a remote organization.

Learning Consultants 10-12 set their own hours of work. They may meet with learners via video-conferencing at mutually agreed upon times.

Timelines:

Contract start date: August 15, 2025 or as soon as possible

Contract end date: July 31, 2026

Budget:

Learning Consultants 10-12 are paid on a minimum per learner basis of $2,481 per learner per year for the 2025/26 learning year.

Contract Details

Oversight:

You will work at the direction of the Team Lead listed above, and in close collaboration with the Educator Services team.

Services Required:

  • Weekly teacherly support of learning through delivery of Career Life courses (combination of written and video conferencing, with video conferencing a minimum of twice a month)
  • Monitor engagement in other SelfDesign courses and communication with learning specialists and other teams, as necessary
  • Maintenance of learner assessment records for each learning week
  • Learning updates (report cards)
  • Participate in regular mentor-led orientation, meetings and workshops

Experience and Credentials:

  • Experience working with learners in grades 10-12

Mandatory requirements:

  • B.C. Certified teacher in good standing
  • Prior to being contracted, applicants must successfully complete an online orientation prior to beginning their work with learners. This orientation supports deeper learning about SelfDesign philosophy and approach, and connects new educators with their mentors.
  • All contractors are required to take the SelfDesign online orientation courses.
