This is a temporary opportunity up to 14 months in duration Salary Grade: N08 From: $100,101.59 To: $150,152.39 Job Summary: Act as a trusted strategic advisor to clusters across the organization by sharing strategy best practices and expertise on business-critical issues. Consult on the development of new programs / projects, cluster business plans, and other initiatives of strategic importance while ensuring alignment with enterprise objectives.

Lead the development and formulation of a concise and impactful corporate strategic plan for the organization. Design and facilitate workshops to support the executives and board of directors in determining the strategic direction and objectives, translate the outcomes into an actionable and ambitious plan.

Manage the implementation of strategic priorities, lead or support strategic initiatives; develop and deliver workshops to advise senior leaders and their teams in ideation, alignment and problem solving.

Coordinate implementation and reporting of the strategic plan. Provide guidance on strategic issues across the organization as they arise through business intelligence and insights to develop options and recommendations for evidence-based decision making.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Support cluster(s) senior leadership team and act as a technical strategy resource, providing guidance and advice to senior management on strategic and operational issues impacting and/or relating to strategic and business planning. This includes:
  • Foster partnerships to identify and analyze the unique needs and planning maturity of different business areas, develop support tailored to their needs.
  • Design and facilitate workshops to support leaders across the organization on strategic issues and/or priorities, follow up on outcomes to foster continuous improvement.
  • Guide the development of cluster strategies aligned to the corporate strategic plan; long- and short-term business goals, objectives, associated initiatives, and timelines.
  • Lead the development of cluster measures and targets related to strategic objectives.
  • Provide strategic guidance, advice and consultation on cluster & corporate strategy, initiatives and issues relating to business planning, change management and target setting / achievement.
  • Support clusters with business planning and aligning plans to corporate objectives.
  • Manage a comprehensive and forward-thinking corporate strategic planning process that integrates ongoing business requirements and executives’ goals, objectives, and vision for the organization. This includes:
  • Support the BoD and Executive Management with strategic planning activities and sessions including designing and delivering workshops to elicit strategic direction and priorities.
  • Craft concrete and actionable corporate strategic plans and propose updates that reflect changes in the operating environment to an existing plan.
  • Partner with business areas in the development and maintenance of their cluster strategies and associated multi-year business plans as a trusted business advisor
  • Lead strategic analysis to determine the organization’s ability to meet the targets of the strategic plan.
  • Review the corporate business plan, cluster operational plans and budgets to better align planned activities and resources with corporate strategic objectives. Recommend adjustments, when necessary.
  • Advise and support executives with divisional strategy planning (as needed), ensuring alignment with the corporate strategic plan.
  • Lead the creation and delivery of high-impact strategic workshops executives across the organization:
  • Perform strategic analysis, utilizing methodologies such as gap analysis, jurisdictional scans, stakeholder engagement, SWOT analysis, and scenario planning to identify opportunities, align teams, and drive actionable outcomes through interactive facilitated exercises.
  • Be a neutral third party to elicit critical discussions; facilitate consensus-building techniques with teams on solutions to strategic issues, development of targeted strategies to address emerging challenges / priorities.
  • Synthesize and transform workshop outcomes into tailored, actionable strategies that align with business objectives; provide follow-up support to track implementation, address challenges, and refine strategies for sustained impact.
  • Evaluate WSIB’s plans, progress, and performance against strategic objectives and key benchmarks:
  • Monitor and evaluate corporate results against strategic objectives.
  • Compare key WSIB metrics with peer organizations to benchmark performance, analyze deviations, and report findings.
  • Facilitate an enterprise view (with inputs from other teams across the organization and externally) on the impact of developments in the WSIB’s operating environment (e.g., economic performance).
  • Act as a conduit for innovation and experimentation within the organization by building relationships outside the WSIB in order to learn and share new ideas:
  • Lead the vision, formation, and growth of a network of strategy professionals in the public sector for sharing insights, ideas, and innovative solutions (e.g. strategy forum).
  • Ensure that events and topics are relevant and designed to elicit collaboration, networking and sharing of ideas and best practices that can benefit all attendees
  • Attend conferences and events related to strategic issues to learn about emerging trends or best practices that can benefit the organization and / or the cluster(s) that are being supported. Act as a representative of the organization and build relationships to foster collaboration amongst strategy teams.
  • Carry out research on new and emerging trends and facilitate conversations on findings both within the team and beyond to foster dialogue, collaboration and innovation through the exploration of new and emerging ideas.

Job Requirements:

  • Education requirements:

Minimum Level Required

  • University degree in public administration, business, law, or economics.
  • Formal project management training or related experience.
  • Advance level of experience with Microsoft Office products.

Preferred Level

  • Master’s degree.
  • Experience:

Minimum Level Required

  • 5 years progressive experience in strategic planning, managing stakeholders or WSIB business or policy experience with demonstrated ability to identify issues, understand the impact on WSIB objectives and business processes, and assessing the implications involved in making changes.
  • 3 years of experience leading research and analysis and/or planning.
  • Knowledge and experience with strategic planning models, methods, and best practices.
  • Proven experience using analytical and problem-solving techniques and methodologies.
  • Proven track record of successfully negotiating corporate changes.
  • Excellent communication, presentation and writing skills.
  • Political acumen and diplomacy.
