Supervisor- Custodial Services
About the role
School District No.35 (Langley) Excluded Position: Supervisor – Custodial Services Department: Facility Services Summary Reporting to the Manager of Facility Services, the Supervisor shall be responsible for the day-to-day and overall supervision of all custodial operations, as well as all afternoon maintenance workers. The custodial activities include housekeeping, building security and minor maintenance repairs.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Supervise custodial foreman and afternoon maintenance workers including planning, organizing assigning, scheduling and coordinating work.
- In conjunction with custodial foreman, conduct ongoing inspections to ensure standardized cleaning standards.
- Working with the custodian foreman, provide a continuous harmonious and efficient working environment. This is accomplished through regular meetings, inspections and coaching.
- As a team member provide input to HR and custodian foreman towards recruitment and selection of custodial staff.
- Conduct custodial performance reviews in consultation with Custodial Foreman.
- Work directly with the foreman to provide new and innovative ways to function outside its normal parameters.
- Manager RTW plans for custodial staff with custodian foreman.
- Represents the District on the product review, workload committee, Pro-D, and any other committees as assigned.
- Assist with the equipment preventative maintenance program (transportation, scheduling)
- Provide Fair and constructive feedback to the foreman.
- Liase with HR regarding performance and disciplinary matters.
- Provide input into annual budget and monitors monthly supply budget and provides monthly updates to the custodian foreman.
- Ensure compliance with energy conservation initiatives.
- In conjunction with Custodian Foreman, authorize supply purchases and process order to supplier.
- Manager Custodial replacement and liases with EOC desk
- Oversee with assigning and directing work projects when schools are not in session.
- In conjunction with Health and Safety, oversee Worksafe incident investigations and ensure employees are in compliance with Worksafe regulations and safe work practices.
- Approve annual vacation and other time off requests.
- Facilitate training procedures, practices and safety matters.
- Represent the district at Step 1 of the grievance procedure.
- Conduct coaching and discipline meetings as required.
- In conjunction with custodian foreman, review and analyze custodial procedures, schedules and workloads to identify and suggest opportunities to improve efficiencies.
- Ensure timesheets are accurate and submitted to payroll
- Coordination and event setup for special events (eg. Elections)
- Inclement weather monitor and reporting (snow)
- Additional duties as assigned by Manager, Facilities Services
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Completion of the Building Service Worker Course
- Minimum of 3 years' custodial experience, including supervisory responsibilities
- Strong leadership and communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively
- Knowledge of cleaning techniques, materials, and equipment
- Familiarity with workplace safety standards and procedures
- Basic computer skills for scheduling and reporting
