PURPOSE
The First Cook is a front-line, team leader that has the experience and training allowing them to work independently. The team member is able to work in any station required and supply guidance and encouragement to those in a less senior position. The First Cook uses proper preparation techniques to prepare adequate quantities for the successful execution of daily service. In charge of all aspects of food production, they also assist with banquet production as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum of 3-4 years previous cooking experience as a Second Cook
- Understanding of proper preparation techniques and adequate quantities
- Formal culinary education (Diploma/Certificate) strongly encouraged
- Must supply own knives and have excellent knife handling skills
- Flexible with assigned tasks
- Must be personable and able to multitask while under extreme pressure and maintain composure
- Must be creative and passionate about the culinary arts with the ability to learn and adapt new techniques and styles as instructed
- Must be available for shift work
- Must be able to work in a team environment
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Outgoing, friendly and positive
- Level 1 Food Safe Certification required
- Level 1 First aid an asset
