Duties:

The student research assistant will assist Drs. Harms and Petrella in transcribing hand written records contained in microfilm files from the Hudson Bay Comapny Arihive. The project provides support to the Anisininew Okimawan Tribal Council, of the Island Lake Region of Northern Manitoba, who have tasked Drs. Harms and Petrella to aid them in the recovery of their histories, by delving into the records taken by Hudson Bay Company’s Trade Post Managers, 1700s to the prese

Qualifications/Experience:

Be a BU student.
Be familiar with Microsoft suite, Teams and Zoom, and Workforce payroll system.\
Be available for training in cursive decoding and transcription of microfilms of hand written accounts of trading posts, including account books, as well as other hand written documents, from the HBC archive.
Be able to read cursive.
Be able to work independently and report regularly (every two weeks) to a supervisor, on completed work and up to date accounting of worked hours, as well as entering hours in the BU Workforce system.
Be patient, as the position entails deep dives into archival records.
Be meticulous in keeping accurate and clear files that contain the transcription of historical files, in both word and excel file formats.
Be able to work flexible hours, up to but not more than 10 hrs. per week.
