SCOPE:

Reporting to the Manager of Facilities Maintenance and Operations, the Chargehand - Electrician will perform varied trades work of a supervisory nature and assists senior supervisory staff in the direction, supervision and planning of the crews in building maintenance and construction projects.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist senior supervisory staff in the planning, direction, and supervision of the work of the crews in electrical trades in construction and maintenance of City facilities and buildings.
  • Assist crew members in installing, repairing, and maintaining electrical systems, fixtures, light and heat systems.
  • Assist in preparing work schedules, determining materials and equipment required.
  • Assist in ensuring work performed by the trades and others is completed efficiently and on schedule.
  • Ensure safety regulations are being met by the crews.
  • Performs other job duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Completion of Grade 12.
  • Considerable experience in supervision, building maintenance and construction as a qualified trades electrician.
  • Electrical Trades Qualification.
  • Class B Electrical FSR certification.
  • Valid BC. Driver's License with safe driving record.
  • Be able to obtain and maintain SPS Reliability Security Clearance.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Effective communication and customer service skills.
  • Leadership and supervisory abilities to work well within a team environment and provide clear direction to the crew.
  • Knowledge and application of safety procedures and the safe conduct of the crew.
  • Ability to use judgement and make decisions to ensure jobs are performed to quality and productivity expectations.
  • Thorough knowledge of standard practices, principles, techniques, materials, and equipment used in the electrical trade.
  • Thorough working knowledge of the Canadian Electrical Code (Part 1) and related codes.
  • Thorough knowledge of applicable safety regulations.
