Job Description
This position is primarily responsible for providing support with the financial close process, reporting to the Supervisor - Accounting Services. The Senior Accountant is expected to work closely with the FSS, BPO, COE and Supervisor to work through the financial close process to produce financial statements in accordance with AbbVie’s policies and procedures, US and CDN GAAP. Activities include, but not limited to:
Key responsibilities
- General accounting:
- Participate in the financial close process; prepare journal entries requisitions, reclassifications and allocations, as well as variance analyses.
- Prepare fixed assets accounting; submit requests for capital Expenditures (RCE’s), coordinating cycle counts, additions and disposals, monthly reporting, etc…
- Approvals of Purchase Order Requisitions and Invoices
- To assist in the completion of the Sarbanes Oxley yearly documentation and testing requirements.
- Intercompany billing, accounts, and reconciliations
- Provide finance support to various teams as needed such as Legal Affairs, Human Resources, Medical Affairs, Clinical Site Management and Procurement.
- Other activities:

Preparation of various government statistical reports.

Qualifications
Education / Experience required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, including Chartered Professional Accountant designation.
- Two-three years of experience in accounting services.
- Experience with SAP considered an asset.
- Experience with local GAAP, internal controls, SOX, and financial reporting.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced team environment.
- Very good interpersonal and communication skills.
- Proficient in both the English and the French language.
Essential skills and abilities

Experience with SAP and other accounting systems preferred.

Microsoft Office - intermediate to advanced level,
-
Intermediate to advanced capabilities in accounting.

Intermediate to advanced awareness of internal controls, including SOX.
