The Civil Law Branch of the Ministry of Justice and Attorney General, provides legal services to ministries within the Government of Saskatchewan.

The Branch has an opening for a lawyer to provide solicitor services in Regina. This is a renewable one-year contract position, potentially leading to a permanent position.

As the primary legal advisor to the ministries within the Government of Saskatchewan, the Civil Law Branch undertakes sophisticated, interesting, and quality legal work. Key Responsibilities

  • Provide legal advice and services respecting a wide variety of civil legal issues arising from the activities or programs of various ministries;
  • Advise on, prepare, and review various legal documents, including documents prepared for cabinet, ministers, and deputy ministers;
  • Advise ministries on the legal implications of contract terms and proposed transactions;
  • Assist and/or lead the drafting, review, and negotiation of various commercial contracts, memorandums of understanding, Minister’s Orders, and other documents;
  • Assist and/or lead the drafting of legislative amendments;
  • Provide policy advice to ministries; and
  • Participate in government and ministry projects and initiatives.

Typically, the knowledge and experience required for this position would have been acquired through the completion of a law degree, supplemented with solicitor experience.

The successful candidate must have membership, or qualify for membership, in the Law Society of Saskatchewan. Preference will be given to those with five or more years’ experience.
