Fort McMurray Catholic Schools is looking for a half-time Educational Assistant in Elementary grades 1-

Qualifications:

 Educational Assistant Certificate or Diploma

 May be required to obtain NVCI Level A&B

Requirements:

 Support students’ growth in the areas of cognition, communication, physical and social

development

 Support and/or implement teacher directed programming

 Work collaborative under guidance of teacher, CST and members of a multi-disciplinary team

 Implement specialist (OT, PT, SLP, etc) strategies to achieve required goals

 Implement behaviour management and educational strategies that facilitate student learning

 Communicate effectively with students using age appropriate positive reinforcements and/or

school specific behaviour strategies

 Observe student behaviour with focus on achieving positive behavioural/educational outcomes

and mitigate/prevent negative ones

 Provide high level of structure to facilitate completion of required learning outcomes

 Work and play at student’s physical level of their activities

 Provide support in use of adaptive and learning technologies using a variety of devices and

associated programs

 Successfully implement the Positive Behaviour Plan(PBP), if required

 Medical Procedures – such as Catheter, Tube feeding, Feeding and swallowing support, or

diabetic monitoring

 Able to understand, implement and support modified curriculum

 Able to work with and support students with Autism or complex medical needs

 Physically handle and transfer students when unsafe

 Physical ability to lift and move students

 Provide school directed indoor and outdoor student supervision

Employee is expected to work with behaviours related/associated with conduct, obsessive/compulsive, trauma and stress related, severe chronic depressive, feeding and/or eating disorders etc. Other behaviours related to ADHD, emotional/behavioural, learning and speech & language-related disabilities, etc may be encountered.
