SUMMARY:
Reports to the Manager - Continuous Improvement Manager and the Mechanical Manager and works under the direction of the Foreman, Mechanical. Performs maintenance, repair, alteration and installation tasks, including renovations and modifications. May perform minor elements of other trades.
DUTIES:

Using a variety of custodial equipment and products cleans and maintains all or part of a school or district building to meet the overall cleanliness standards of the district. Removes refuse, recycling, organics cardboard and returnables to outside bins.

Cleans the outside perimeter of the building. Removes sand, debris, ice and snow from walkways and building apron. Removes infectious disease hazards including rodents and offensive material from all areas of the property (or site).

Regularly maintains and sanitizes classroom sinks and desks.
-
Daily refilling of paper towel dispensers in every washroom, classroom and all building rooms.

Maintains sanitation and cleanliness of multiple carpets in all classrooms.
-
Using a variety of sanitary equipment removes vomit, feces, and bodily fluids on a daily and/or weekly basis.

Performs set up and maintenance of ant traps throughout the building.
-
Performs waxing and stripping of floors, twice a year.
-
Maintains and replaces light bulbs, tubes, batteries, and ceiling tiles when needed.
-
Visually and manually checks windows, doors, shutters and gates to ensure safety of buildings and custodial teams.
-
Visually checks fire/security alarms, fire extinguishers, emergency lighting systems and site for damage or operational problems; reports needed repairs to Supervisor/School Administration.

Performs routine preventative maintenance and minor repairs using ordinary hand tools; reports other needed repairs to Supervisor/School Administration.

Maintains tools, equipment and work areas in a clean, safe manner.

May be required to confirm requirements for cleaning supplies.

Moves furniture, supplies, and equipment; sets up tables, chairs, audio- visual equipment and/or facility for special functions as directed.

Activates/deactivates alarm; ensures that facility is left in a safe, secure condition. Contacts Security Monitor as required.

Responds to requests from staff, Administrative Officers, and outside groups. Provides access to locations and materials specified on rental contracts.

May act as a member of a custodial cleaning crew.
-
Remains current with changing technology, practices and equipment.
-
Performs other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Successful completion of a Secondary school graduation program or equivalent. Completion of post secondary B.C.
Trades Qualification Certificate relevant to the specific trade - Plumbing.
May be required to hold one of the following additional tickets relevant to the trade: Valid Class "A" or "B" gas ticket, certification in backflow prevention testing, or a related ticket/certificate.
Minimum of 5 years recent experience working in the trade. Skill in the use of tools of the trade.
Ability to read blueprints and specifications.
Ability to safely operate and maintain a large variety of machinery.
Valid B.C. Driver's Licence. Safe driving record.
Physically capable of performing the duties of the position.
Good interpersonal, organizational and communication skills. Ability to use judgment when providing information.
Ability to work independently and as a member of a crew.
Current and thorough knowledge of related standards, practices, regulations, codes and methods.
Knowledge of WCB and WHMIS regulations. Safe work habits.
Some positions may require the knowledge of a language other than English.
