Job Description:
Reporting to the AVP, Global Brand & Marketing, this individual will be responsible for overseeing how our brand is applied in large-scale marketing campaigns, as well as overseeing global funding for these campaigns to support the growth of our brand.
Accountabilities
Manage brand investment:
- Review requests for access to the global marketing fund (GMF), proposed allocations, and track progress.
- Establish and report on marketing performance metrics and ROI, providing the AVP and executive stakeholders with clear insights on the effectiveness and efficiency of marketing spend.
- Conduct continuous analysis of market trends, competitive activity, and campaign performance to recommend strategic shifts and optimization opportunities for sustained growth.
- Lead the internal Marketing Council to foster collaboration, share best practices, and ensure strategic alignment across all global marketing teams.
- Dive deep into Brand Health metrics working closely with research team, in particular our perception statements to ensure investment in these campaigns is supporting our goal of increased brand growth through key perceptions.
Support and guide brand marketing
- Provide guidance on applying the brand to large-scale marketing initiatives to ensure they support brand growth
- Ensure our business group marketing teams adopt our global brand positioning – which provides long-term and broad guidance on how we go to market with our brand to ensure we come across as a globally unified brand with local flexibility.
- Review integrated brand campaigns designed to drive brand health, awareness, and support business targets.
- Serve as the strategic interface between the Global Brand team and regional Business Group (BG) marketing partners, ensuring marketing initiatives are tailored and executed effectively to meet local growth objectives.
Governance and Alignment
- Partner closely with the Global Creative Director and Director, Global Brand Strategy to ensure campaign assets and messaging adhere to core brand guidelines and positioning principles.
- Oversee the campaign review process, acting as the central checkpoint for alignment and approval before broader rollout.
Competencies:
- 10+ years of progressive experience in marketing, brand strategy and management, with a minimum of 5 years in a senior leadership role focused on campaign management and marketing investment.
- Demonstrated experience managing large, complex marketing budgets (GMF) and driving data-driven allocation decisions.
- Proven ability to lead the development and execution of global, multi-channel marketing campaigns within a matrixed organization.
- Deep expertise in developing Global Strategic Positioning and experience aligning this to CVPs, with adoption across various business units.
- Strong analytical skills with proficiency in marketing attribution, ROI measurement, and financial reporting related to marketing spend.
- Experience working in the financial services or a similarly complex, regulated industry is preferred.
- Exceptional executive-level communication, presentation, and negotiation skills, with the ability to influence strategy across diverse global teams.
- As this position is posted in several locations, we specify that bilingualism (French, English, both oral and written) is required for Quebec only for the frequent interactions with English and French-speaking colleagues or internal partners across Canada or worldwide.
- Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Business Administration, or a related field; MBA is a plus.
The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors. In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance. Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
