Through an integrated effort focusing on honest, open and consistent communication, Marketing and Communications provides the leadership needed to help the Division of Housing and Ancillary Services create and maintain mutually beneficial relationships with students and other stakeholders vital to the Division’s growth and development. Marketing and Communications brings marketing perspectives and strategies into the Division’s decision-making and planning. It provides leadership, expertise and services that enhance the quality and effectiveness of the Division’s communications projects and programs.

Responsibilities

The Street Team plays an important role within the Division of Housing and Ancillary Services, providing support to the HAS Marketing and Communications Team.

Time Commitment

This role will require a commitment of 5-24 weekly hours from August to May.

Responsibilities

Reporting to HAS Marketing Administrative Coordinator, Street Team Leads will help to manage Street Team operations, coordinating and planning the promotion of various services offered by the Division, including but not limited to:

  • Assist in planning and organizing team training, team building events, service development and improvement initiatives
  • Assist in managing the Street Team’s day-to-day operation, including but not limited to inventory tracking, team performance management, scheduling, and filling shifts
  • Conduct/organize residence tours
  • Understand the set-up and work with Marketing team members and the Bookstore team to organize and decorate the Delaware Hall model suites, ensuring there will be enough marketing materials and Western merch in the tour room area and that all the posters are set up correctly
  • Work with the Campus Tour guides and coordinate the tour group handover
  • Provide visitors (incoming students, parents etc.) with a residence building tour and room tour during open house events and throughout the school year., explaining all specific details and answering questions as trained
  • Organize the promotion of the services offered by the Division
  • Work with the Marketing Administrative Coordinator to come up with strategies to promote upper-year residence and apartments, meal plan and campus eateries, bookstore sales promo, and other services as assigned
  • Conduct reseach and surveys to support operational decision-making
  • Manage inventory of the prizes and coupons that will be used to hand out and make sure the Hospitality Services unit managers are aware of the coupons handed out
  • Support promotions including, but are not limited to, handing out flyers and coupons, promoting campus eatery offerings, spreading awareness on the Bookstore products, and educating students on leadership opportunities (paid and/or volunteer positions) within the Division
  • Set up and maintain booths across campus
  • Engage in conversation with students and provide information as trained
  • Hand out promo coupons, flyers, and food sampling, etc.
  • Collect survey responses and give out prizes
  • Consolidate and analyze data to support team performance review and/or strategic recommendation
  • Attend and support Marketing and Recruitment Events including, but not limited to, Fall Preview Day, Spring Open House, Lunar New Year Gala, KIOC Open House event, etc.
  • Work with Marketing Administrative Coordinator to set up banners and all other required marketing materials for events
  • Schedule Street Team members to work and support express tours or any other tasks as needed

This role requires participation in paid mandatory training sessions and monthly team meetings focused on team building and receiving training updates. Attendance at Fall Preview Day and Spring Open House—two key recruitment events—is mandatory. Exceptions may be granted on a case-by-case basis for mandatory academic commitments or other extenuating circumstances.

Through your work with the Street Team, you will acquire professional communication and presentation skills. You will also learn the basics of behind-the-scenes event planning and team management. You will have access to, and connect with, a variety of resources on campus. Qualifications Education:

  • Must be enrolled as a full-time Western student for the 2026–27 academic year

Experience:

  • Minimum of 2 years experience in customer service or similar work experience is required
  • Previous experience living in a Western residence is preferred
  • Team supervision skills and previous Street Team experience are preferred

Skills, Abilities & Expertise:

  • Reliable and dependable with the ability to work at various times throughout the week and weekend
  • Strong verbal communication skills and ability to express ideas clearly
  • Ability to maintain a positive, outgoing attitude with genuine customer service orientation
  • Demonstrate integrity and work in accordance with Western's policies and procedures
  • Personable and courteous in working relationships with colleagues, students and the general public
  • Ability to prioritize and organize a fluctuating workload
  • Ability to work independently and effectively as a member of the team to achieve department goals
  • Ability to work in a manner that is compliant with confidentiality requirements as applicable
  • Valid driver's license would be an asset
