ARKK is seeking an experienced and highly skilled Senior Mechanical / Piping Engineer to lead the design, coordination, and delivery of mechanical and piping systems for industrial projects. This role is central to ensuring technical excellence, constructability, and effective integration across multidisciplinary project teams.
The successful candidate will provide senior-level technical guidance, oversee engineering deliverables, and ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, and regulatory requirements. They will lead design reviews, support field and construction activities, manage scope and schedule for mechanical and piping work, and coordinate closely with clients, vendors, and other engineering disciplines throughout the project lifecycle.
In addition to technical responsibilities, this role contributes significantly to team growth and business development. The Senior Mechanical / Piping Engineer will mentor junior and intermediate staff, support proposal and scope development, and help cultivate strong client relationships while reinforcing ARKK’s commitment to quality and continuous improvement.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Technical Leadership:
- Lead the planning, engineering, and delivery of piping and mechanical systems for industrial projects. Typical areas of work include:
- Tailings and mine-site pumps, piping and slurry systems
- Refinery or chemical piping, pumps and assorted stationary equipment
- CSA pipelines & facilities
- Experience with slurry piping and pumps, lined pipe and HDPE is an asset.
- Lead and review piping designs, material and equipment selection, and layouts.
- Perform detailed engineering calculations for piping designs. Coordinate with and prepare documentation for specialists to complete their calculations, such as: stress analysis, HVAC and specialty rotating equipment.
- Produce and review material requisitions, work packages, technical reports, and regulator submissions. Coordinate and lead multi-discipline documents.
- Collaborate closely with other disciplines and vendors. Provide checking and review of deliverables where they interact with piping and mechanical scope.
- Support field and construction activities, such as field visits and RFIs.
- Provide senior technical leadership, mentorship, and oversight to intermediate and junior engineers and designers.
- Ensure designs meet functional, operational, and constructability requirements while optimizing performance and lifecycle costs.
- Conduct and lead technical meetings and design reviews.
- Prepare, review, and authenticate engineering drawings, specifications, and design deliverables in accordance with APEGA standards.
- Develop and implement templates, example documents, and quality control procedures to maintain excellence in project delivery.
- Contribute to staff training programs, performance evaluations, and succession planning.
- Commitment to quality, safety, and continuous improvement in engineering design.
2. Project Management:
- Manage the mechanical, piping, and HVAC engineering scope of all sizes of multidisciplinary projects from concept through to detailed design and construction.
- Manage and track changes to technical scope and schedules.
- Develop project budgets, schedules, and resource allocations to ensure successful project delivery.
- Coordinate with clients, consultants, and contractors during all project phases, including tendering and construction support.
- Support project managers with risk identification, scope management, and resolution of engineering challenges.
3. Compliance:
- Ensure all mechanical engineering deliverables conform to applicable codes, standards, and regulatory requirements (e.g. ASME, CSA, ABSA).
- Perform and document design reviews and QA/QC checks to ensure technical accuracy, safety, and compliance.
- Maintain awareness of industry innovations, sustainability practices, and regulatory updates, integrating them into internal standards and project designs.
4. Business Development:
- Provide technical leadership and input during proposal preparation, feasibility studies, and client presentations.
- Contribute to the preparation of technical scopes, estimates, and methodologies for proposals and tender submissions.
- Cultivate strong client relationships, identifying opportunities for repeat business and service expansion.
- Represent the company at client meetings and professional events.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Piping Engineering from an accredited institution.
- 15+ years of engineering experience with 10+ years of progressive experience in mechanical design and project delivery within an engineering consulting environment.
- Registration as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with APEGA (or eligible for registration). Eligible for registration with other provincial regulators.
- Strong knowledge of mechanical / piping systems for industrial facilities.
- Proven experience leading multidisciplinary project teams and managing complex engineering scopes.
- Competent in Microsoft Office programs, such as Word and Excel.
- Excellent leadership, organizational, and communication skills Good attention to detail and ability to handle scope changes.
- Lawfully entitled to work in Canada and in the Province of Alberta.
