Position Overview:

InnovOak School has an immediate need for a part-time French teacher to teach three French classes (Grades 2–8) across the Lower and Middle School. This role is scheduled for 9 periods per week, with flexibility in scheduling for the right candidate. This could include certified teachers who are currently on leave, retired, working part time, or supply teaching. The position offers a supportive environment, small class sizes, and the potential for additional hours as enrolment grows. Teachers teach without distractions.

This is also an excellent opportunity for a passionate, aspiring teacher with a strong French language background who is looking to grow within a forward-thinking school that values relationship-driven teaching and well-managed learning.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver engaging and structured FSL instruction to Grades 2–8, three classes per week, following Ontario Curriculum and CEFR-aligned standards

  • Prepare and deliver age-appropriate French lessons that develop oral communication, reading, and writing skills in a sequential and meaningful way

  • Maintain a safe, warm, and supervised classroom where routines are consistent, students feel respected, and expectations are clear

  • Build positive relationships with students, supporting their well-being while ensuring clear academic progress

  • Manage classroom materials, plan units of study, and prepare and post assessment criteria, rubrics, and samples of learning

  • Create and post lessons and support materials to the school’s online platform for student access and accountability

  • Maintain an accurate and up-to-date gradebook using the school LMS, aligned with Growing Success and school standards

  • Assess and evaluate student progress using varied assessment methods and provide timely feedback to students and families

  • Supervise students during assigned periods and ensure responsible care at all times

  • Communicate clearly and consistently with homeroom teachers and leadership to ensure program alignment and student support

  • Contribute to a positive school culture where students, staff, and families feel welcome and valued

What We Are Looking For:

  • A positive, reliable, and organized educator who enjoys working with children in the elementary and middle years
  • Ability to teach French as a second language with attention to CEFR standards and scaffolded language learning
  • Common-sense approach to classroom management, routines, and student supervision
  • A natural ability to build rapport with students while maintaining firm, fair boundaries
  • Willingness to adapt plans and materials to meet a range of learning needs and classroom dynamics
  • Capable of maintaining classroom structure and contributing positively to overall school operations

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree; Bachelor of Education preferred

  • Fluency in French for FSL instruction and strong command of spoken and written English

  • Understanding of the Ontario Curriculum, Growing Success, and basic classroom expectations for teaching in Ontario

  • Experience teaching or tutoring French in a classroom or one-on-one setting is preferred

  • Experience with CEFR-aligned instruction is an asset

  • Canadian residency or permanent resident status is required

Additional Information:

  • This role is scheduled for 9 periods per week (approximately 2 hours per day)
