NAV CANADA is looking for a forward-thinking leader to shape the future of technical training in a safety-critical aviation environment. As Director, Technology Training, you’ll lead the transformation of our technology training programs—moving beyond compliance to build a proactive, future-ready workforce.

You’ll oversee the Technology Training School and be responsible for leading strategic initiatives that equip over 1,600 employees with the skills to design, build, and maintain mission-critical systems. You are also responsible to ensuring that all technology employees acquire the necessary technology skills that support business operations and meet regulatory requirements. By leveraging emerging learning technologies and building robust competency frameworks, you’ll ensure our teams stay ahead of industry evolution and regulatory demands.

In this role you will:

  • Lead the development of an integrated training ecosystem that delivers seamless, effective learning experiences.
  • Partner with Technology leadership to define future skill requirements and embed them across the employee lifecycle.
  • Create a technology skills roadmap that bridges current capabilities with future needs, including investment planning and evaluation of tools like AI and AR/VR.
  • Ensure all training programs meet Canadian and international regulatory standards; conduct environmental scans to identify disruptions and strengthen quality frameworks.
  • Guide training initiatives across NAV CANADA’s technology domains—ATM, CNS, weather systems, software, hardware, cybersecurity, and emerging tech.
  • Establish structured capability transfer processes for new technologies, ensuring smooth transitions from vendors and rapid upskilling in high-demand areas.
  • Oversee training budgets (CAPEX/OPEX) to ensure cost-effective delivery and strategic alignment.
  • Continuously assess organizational needs, optimize internal controls, and lead change to support operational excellence.
  • Define and communicate clear metrics to measure training impact, highlight progress, and share lessons learned.

What you bring:

  • Undergraduate degree in a technology related discipline or equivalent work experience.
  • Certifications in instructional design, training, or project management (e.g., CPTD, PMP).
  • 10 years of experience in progressive leadership roles overseeing large cross functional and high performing teams
  • 10 years of experience in adult education principles and best practices in a technological environment
  • Experience with Training Methodologies, Strategies and Best Practices
  • Previous experience of change management and project management of complex, multiple Projects and Programs.
  • Expert level knowledge of technology training methodologies, strategies and tools
  • Expert level knowledge of managing large scale training environment (technical training school)
  • Demonstrated understanding of Canadian and International Regulations for Technology related training within an Air Navigation Service Provider
  • Knowledge and understanding of Air Navigation Services
  • Knowledge and understanding of ICAO and Canadian Aviation Regulations
  • Knowledge of a range of Technology Quality Management frameworks such as ISO, ITIL, CMMI, ED-109 etc.
  • Knowledge and understanding of collective bargaining, labour relations and employee relationships
  • Familiarity with AI-driven learning technologies and virtual training solutions.

Working Conditions:

  • For all L-3 and above: Bilingual or willingness to learn French
  • This position is a hybrid position with a minimum – 3 days per week on site.
