Hatfield is seeking a Leader of Finance. This position will provide oversight of financial planning, management of financial risks, record-keeping, and financial reporting. This is an executive level role, similar to a Director of Finance position. The Leader of Finance will work closely with and is accountable to Hatfield’s Managing Partners and Board, reporting directly to the Senior Vice President & Managing Partner.
Responsibilities
Financial Operations:
- Cash flow forecasting and monitoring cash flow to ensure the company has sufficient liquidity for operations and investments.
- Engaging in financial forecasting, budgeting, and long-term planning.
- Overseeing tax compliance and optimization strategies.
- Ensuring the company’s financial systems are legally compliant and progressively support operations and future growth.
- Controlling the company’s annual operating budget to ensure that financial resources are used efficiently and effectively.
- Ensuring cost-effective sourcing, optimize equipment tracking, streamline charge-out processes to improve operational efficiency.
Financial Oversight and Reporting:
- Overseeing the company’s financial operations and ensuring timely and accurate financial reports and practices.
- Ensuring that financial reports are compliant with Canadian Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and accurately represent the company’s financial position.
- Attesting to the accuracy and reliability of financial statements.
Strategic Initiatives:
- Supporting company goals and objectives with progressive financial strategies.
- Collaborating with other senior managers to make informed decisions about investments, capital structure, and income management.
Leadership:
- Building and leading a highly effective finance and accounting team ensuring they are motivated and performing to the best of their abilities.
- Leading the Hatfield Finance Committee and ensuring the Committee’s efforts support Hatfield’s financial objectives.
- Overseeing financial planning and analysis functions to support strategic decision-making and business growth.
Risk Management:
- Managing insurance policy renewals, ensuring adequate coverage, and addressing compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Identifying and addressing financial risks and opportunities for the company.
Mergers and Acquisitions:
- Providing recommendations on M&A opportunities.
- Evaluating financial viability and risks factors associated with potential acquisitions.
Board Consultation:
- Consulting with the Hatfield Board and the Managing Partners on corporate financial strategies.
- Providing insights into financial implications of corporate strategic decisions to ensure alignment with Hatfield’s financial goals.
Outputs to the Managing Partners and Finance Committee:
- Provide ongoing financial and business intelligence metrics derived from Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central, supporting operational decision making at Corporate and Group Director levels.
- Monthly and Year-to-Date financial reports including income statements, fee and cashflow projections, Accounts Receivable (A/R), Write-off, and Work in Progress (WIP) reports.
- Quarterly recommendations to the Finance Committee regarding potential special distributions to Partners.
- Quarterly comparison of budgeted financials vs actual performance, identifying any significant variances and providing justification.
- Quarterly support reviewing annual financial statements provided by Hatfield’s external accountants, as well as corporate valuation and interim valuation.
Education and Experience
- CPA designation and a bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field.
- 10+ years of progressive finance and accounting experience, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role, ideally in a consulting practice.
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles and a background with data analysis.
- Hands-on experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central (or comparable mid-market ERP), including financial reporting, controls, and process optimization.
- Strong working knowledge of Power BI, including designing, interpreting, and presenting financial dashboards.
- Proven track record in strategic planning and operational efficiency.
- Strong knowledge of Canadian tax regulations, corporate finance, and risk management.
Other Assets/Skills
- Experience partnering with IT / ERP consultants during system implementation or optimization is a strong asset.
- Proactive approach to problem-solving with strong decision-making capability.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, evolving business consulting environment.
