About the Role:

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. ThePayroll & Benefits Coordinatorat YMCA of Northern Alberta supports the Payroll and People & Culture team, assisting with payroll processing in UKG, ensuring employee changes such as hires, transfers, and terminations are entered accurately. The Payroll & Benefits Coordinator also supports benefits and registered pension plan administration. This role takes on extra administrative tasks as needed to assist the team, and answers inquiries throughout the organization regarding payroll and benefits. The Payroll & Benefits Coordinator acts in accordance with all policies and guidelines of the YMCA of Northern Alberta at all times.

Payroll Responsibilities:

  • Support full-cycle payroll processing, including processing new hires, terminations and employee related changes
  • Ensure accurate and timely processing of earnings, deductions, and statutory remittances
  • Maintain and update employee payroll records, including new hires, terminations, transfers, and status changes
  • Review and validate timesheets, schedules, and pay adjustments in collaboration with managers
  • Prepare payroll reports as required for internal and external stakeholders
  • Prepare and maintain General Ledger (GL) allocations, postings, and reconciliation into NetSuite
  • Support year-end processes including T4s and benefit reporting
  • Support payroll audits, reporting, and reconciliation activities
  • Respond to employee payroll inquiries and issue resolution in a timely and professional manner
  • Answer staff inquiries regarding remuneration matters and respond to all external inquiries regarding remuneration matters (e.g. Service Canada)
  • Additional duties as assigned

Benefits Responsibilities:

  • Administer employee benefits programs, including enrollments, changes, and terminations
  • Administer the employee registered pension plan (RPP), including enrollments, changes, terminations, contributions and reporting
  • Coordinate benefits eligibility, onboarding, and employee communications
  • Reconcile benefit invoices and ensure accurate payroll deductions
  • Support employees with benefit-related questions and issue resolution in a timely and professional manner

Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of experience in payroll and benefits administration
  • Payroll Compliance Practitioner Certification is considered an asset
  • Proficiency in payroll software, UKG Pro/Ulti Pro is preferred
  • NetSuite experience an asset
  • Strong understanding of Canadian payroll legislation and practices
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline driven environment
  • High attention to detail with strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Able to obtain a Police Information Check (PIC) and Vulnerable Sector Search (VSS)
  • Strong knowledge of Excel
