Salary: The salary range for this position is CAD $31.89/Hr. - CAD $31.89/Hr.

Summary:

Relational Security Officers play a critical role in reducing workplace violence and promoting cultural safety. Training for RSOs is based on trauma-informed practice, integrating the knowledge of how people are affected by trauma, into the anticipation, desescalation, and prevention of aggression in healthcare settings. RSOs use effective and culturally informed communication to build healthy and positive relationships with patients, residents and visitors, creating a safe and welcoming environment for all. Relational Security Officers work at both St. Paul's Hospital and Mount Saint Joseph Hospital.

The Supervisor, Relational Security Officer is responsible for leading staff on shift and ensuring the staff follow departmental policies and procedures at the direction of the Coordinator/Team Lead. As well, the Supervisor, Relational Security Officer maintains and enforces security of persons and property in accordance with established policies and procedures.

What You Bring:

Education

  • Graduation from Grade 12, current BC Security Guard license, OFA Level II Certification, and Certification of Training Completion in Advanced Security Training
  • Three year's recent relevant experience

Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to deal with others effectively.
  • Ability to supervise.
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
  • Ability to organize work.
  • Ability to operate related equipment.

Your Day to Day:

  • Supervises and supports Relational Security Officers, including scheduling relief staff, training, and contributing to performance reviews.
  • Promotes a collaborative, team‑based approach to problem solving and proactively addresses operational issues.
  • Patrols facilities, monitors surveillance systems, enforces security procedures, and mitigates safety risks.
  • Responds to emergencies—including disasters, fires, and aggressive behavior—by assessing situations and coordinating with clinical staff.
  • Investigates disturbances using non‑violent interventions, documenting all incidents and maintaining accurate logs and reports.
  • Provides security presence and escorts for staff and patients, responding to assistance requests throughout the organization.
  • Operates and manages security technologies such as access control, CCTV, and photo ID systems.
  • Conducts heliport safety inspections, preliminary accident investigations, and inputs critical incident metrics into departmental databases.
  • Liaises with police, fire, and community agencies, assists in developing safety plans for high‑risk individuals, and provides First Aid when required.
  • Ensures accurate shift handover, maintains supplies, and performs additional related duties as assigned.
