Our client is seeking an experienced Controller to join its leadership team in the Sarnia, Ontario area. This is an outstanding opportunity for a collaborative finance leader who is passionate about strengthening teams, improving financial operations, and helping guide an organization through its next phase of growth.

Reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer, the Controller will provide leadership across the accounting function while ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of financial reporting. Beyond overseeing day-to-day accounting operations, this individual will play an instrumental role in enhancing internal processes, improving financial visibility, and supporting organizational decision-making through meaningful analysis and business insight.

Key Responsibilities

Oversee the organization’s financial reporting processes, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and compliance with applicable accounting standards. Manage monthly, quarterly, and year-end reporting activities while supporting budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning initiatives. Review complex accounting transactions, reconciliations, accruals, and financial analyses. Monitor financial performance, identify trends, and provide recommendations that support informed business decisions. Strengthen internal controls, documentation, and financial governance practices. Support audit activities and coordinate relationships with external auditors and regulatory stakeholders. Partner with operational leaders to address financial reporting needs and resolve accounting-related issues. Evaluate and implement opportunities to improve financial systems, streamline workflows, and enhance reporting capabilities through technology. Assist with cash flow monitoring, capital expenditure oversight, and other strategic finance initiatives as required.

Ideal Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate is an experienced accounting leader who combines strong technical expertise with a collaborative leadership style and a commitment to continuous improvement.

Qualifications include:

CPA designation strongly preferred, but not required. Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline. 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including 5+ years in a leadership capacity. Proven experience leading and mentoring accounting professionals. Strong understanding of financial reporting, accounting principles, internal controls, and financial systems. Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities while maintaining exceptional accuracy and attention to detail. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to see both operational detail and the broader business picture. Experience implementing process improvements, leveraging technology, or supporting finance transformation initiatives. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build trusted relationships across all levels of an organization. A proactive, hands-on leadership style with a passion for coaching others and driving positive change.

Compensation Range

$100,000 - $120,000 base salary, commensurate with experience, plus a comprehensive benefits package, employer-sponsored retirement savings contributions, paid parking, and ongoing professional development opportunities.
