This posting will be used to fill 1 term full-time position working 75 hours bi-weekly, ending June 30, 2027. It will establish a 12-month eligibility list which may be used to fill similar term positions. Temporary Assignments may be considered with prior approval from applicant’s manager.
This job is based in the thriving and diverse city of Whitehorse in the beautiful Yukon.
Who we are
Yukon Communicable Disease Control is committed to providing excellence in the management of infectious diseases in Yukon. As an Infectious Disease Nurse, you will provide primary health care services through an expanded nursing role.
Your role
This position provides physical and risk assessments relating to infectious disease, including testing and counseling, interpretation of test results, diagnosis, treatment, case management, immunization, outbreak, pandemic response and referrals. You will be responsible for managing disease investigations, contact tracing and follow up activities for Yukon’s Reportable Disease List including but not limited to sexually transmitted infections, Tuberculosis, respiratory illnesses such as Influenza and COVID-19, reportable blood borne diseases, vaccine preventable disease, enteric and zoonotic diseases and outbreak management as required. In addition, you will provide guidance and support to other health care providers in Yukon in the management of reportable communicable diseases.
As a team member, you help to foster an environment in which communities, families and individuals can achieve and maintain optimal health through the provision of accurate and timely health information, health education/promotion, disease prevention and treatment services.

- Current registration, or eligibility to apply, with a Canadian registered nursing regulatory authority
- Recent experience in a nursing role in a public health or community setting
- Recent experience in either: an expanded nursing role that includes diagnosis and treatment in either primary care with management of infectious diseases, public health or related field, STI services, Tuberculosis related care, or Management of reportable communicable diseases; or recent, significant experience and/or training as a nurse in a relevant public health role

Valid class 5 driver’s license or equivalent

Current Yukon YRNA registration in good standing

Current CPR-HCP issued within the last 2 years.

WHMIS 2015 (within one month of hire)

Transportation of Dangerous Goods certification (within 2 months of hire)

Yukon Immunization certification (within 2 months of hire)

This job requires you to perform, and/or be exposed to, the following:
- Willingness to travel occasionally within the Yukon
- This position works in an office, clinic and field environment with ready access to professional colleagues for expert and peer consultation
- Exposure to infectious individuals, exposure to and handling of bodily substances (e.g. blood, saliva) which may carry pathogens (e.g. HIV, hepatitis, SARS).
- Exposure to clients with wide range of emotions (including denial, depression, anger)
