About the job
In this role, you will:
- conduct inspections of private elementary and secondary schools in Ontario and overseas
- provide information and clarification on legislation, policies and requirements to private schools, school boards, and other stakeholders
- facilitate the implementation of new policies
- ensure compliance with legislation and policies and identify, document, and follow-up on non-compliance issues
What you bring to the team
Mandatory requirements:
- You are a member in good standing with the Ontario College of Teachers
- You are Supervisory Officer certified.
- You are able to travel regularly to locations without public transit.
Technical Knowledge
- You have knowledge of and experience applying education theory, principles and practices at the elementary and secondary school levels.
- You have knowledge of private school/international education issues to conduct private school validations and inspections.
- You can interpret and apply relevant legislation (e.g. Education Act), and enforce legislative requirements and penalties, policies and procedures in order to identify, document, advise and follow up on non-compliance issues.
Analytical and Investigative Skills
- You have investigative skills to examine and review student work, tests, school records, parent complaints, health and safety concerns and to identify offences under the Education Act that can result in a conviction and fine.
- You have analytical skills to assess the effectiveness of private schools and their compliance with the Education Act and related policies.
- You pay attention to detail in order to fully document findings and evidence.
Communication Skills
- You have proven oral communication skills to advise private schools on all legal and administrative requirements, inform them of significant non-compliance issues, discuss corrective action, contribute to committees, and participate in professional development training.
- You have written communication skills to prepare reports and make evidence-based recommendations.
Leadership and Interpersonal Skills
- You have leadership skills and professionalism to demonstrate authority and credibility when representing the ministry to private schools and the public.
- You use your interpersonal skills and demonstrate tact and diplomacy to generate awareness of the role of the ministry and discuss observations/concerns with school principals.
