Binnie is looking for a Survey Assistant to join our Engineering Survey Division, based out of our Burnaby location working on projects around the Lower Mainland and throughout British Columbia.
As part of our Geomatics Group, you will assist with providing a wide range of survey services–including control, topographic, and boundary surveys, as well as construction layout.
This is an ideal role for a motivated candidate who is looking to develop a career in Geomatics. You will gain valuable work experience and knowledge while working closely within a supportive group of staff.
Your Role
- Assisting surveyors with field work and data collection
- Set up instruments and equipment (Total Station, GPS base, Targets) for the Surveyor in an efficient and timely manner
- Assist Surveyor in achieving project timelines and deliverables by thoroughly understanding the project scope and outcomes
- Reviewing survey data for accuracy
- Maintaining supplies and resources to ensure field availability
- Perform daily visual inspection of instruments and equipment to ensure it is in good working order, and report any defects found to Surveyor
- Abiding by Binnie’s procedures and safety program
- Contribute to a positive, professional and fun team atmosphere
What You Bring
- Previous experience in surveying or other related types of work involving the outdoors
- Diploma or Degree in Geomatics Engineering Technology or Civil Engineering Technology, or related disciplines preferred
- Valid Driver’s License
- Basic knowledge of how to set up common types of surveying equipment (GPS, Robotic Total Station, Automatic Level)
- Willing to work outdoors in inclement weather
- Physically fit and able to move and carry survey equipment and tools
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to work cooperatively in a team environment
- Proactive mindset with willingness to learn and grow
- Willing to work out of town on short duration projects
