Job Description
JOB PURPOSE: The Public Relations Officer is responsible for developing and delivering strategic communications, media relations, community engagement, and public affairs initiatives that advance The Salvation Army's mission and organizational priorities. The role supports regional campaigns, events, crisis communications, fundraising initiatives, and community partnerships while ensuring consistent messaging and brand integrity.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and distribute press releases, media advisories, and public communications for campaigns, events, and organizational initiatives. Build and maintain positive relationships with media outlets, community partners, donors, and key stakeholders. Create engaging content for social media, newsletters, websites, videos, and other communication channels. Support media inquiries, interview requests, and public relations activities to enhance organizational visibility. Assist with crisis communications by preparing key messaging, statements, and communication materials. Coordinate and promote community engagement, fundraising, stewardship, and awareness events. Identify and develop compelling stories that showcase the impact of The Salvation Army's programs and services. Provide editorial review and quality assurance for communication materials to ensure consistency and brand alignment. Support regional fundraising campaigns, including donor engagement and promotional activities. Monitor communication performance and provide recommendations to strengthen outreach and public awareness efforts.
Skills & Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, Journalism, or a related field. Minimum 3 years of experience in public relations, communications, marketing, fundraising, or a related field. Exceptional written, editing, and verbal communication skills with strong attention to detail. Experience developing content for digital platforms, social media, websites, and traditional media channels. Strong media relations and stakeholder engagement skills. Excellent project management and organizational abilities with the capacity to manage multiple priorities simultaneously. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with social media management and communications tools. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams and external partners. Valid driver's license and ability to travel occasionally within the region as required. Demonstrated professionalism, sound judgment, integrity, and ability to maintain confidentiality.
Compensation
The target hiring range for this position is $63,754.60 to $79,697.80 with a maximum of $95,659.20. Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
