About the Role
The Director of Manufacturing Engineering provides strategic and operational leadership across all engineering functions that support our manufacturing operations — including capacity planning, continuous improvement, automation, maintenance, and capital projects. Reporting directly to the VP of Operations, this role drives innovation, scalability, and sustainable growth while ensuring world-class efficiency, reliability, and safety across operations.
As a transformational leader, the Director inspires and develops a multidisciplinary team, embeds a culture of continuous improvement, and ensures technical excellence throughout the organization. This is a critical role that aligns engineering strategy with business goals and positions Longboard for long-term success.
About You
You are a proven leader with deep expertise in manufacturing engineering and a passion for developing people and systems. With progressive leadership experience, you thrive on managing complex projects, leading cultural change, and driving operational excellence. You bring strong technical knowledge in manufacturing processes, automation, reliability engineering, and capital project management, coupled with the ability to communicate vision, influence stakeholders, and deliver measurable results.

Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Industrial, or Manufacturing Engineering.
- P.Eng is not required for this role.

8–10+ years of progressive leadership experience in manufacturing engineering.

Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and large-scale engineering projects.

Strong knowledge of LEAN manufacturing, TOC, and continuous improvement methodologies.

Background in aluminum extrusion (preferred), metal fabrication, or related manufacturing.

Experience in automation systems, equipment reliability, mechatronics, and asset optimization.

Familiarity with safety regulations, ISO standards, and quality systems.

Excellent communication, presentation, and project management skills (PMP preferred).

Servant leadership mindset that prioritizes collaboration and customer value.
What You Will Do

Define and execute the long-term engineering roadmap aligned with company growth and operational goals.

Partner cross-functionally with Operations, Quality, Safety, Product Innovation, and Business Systems (ERP and MES) to ensure alignment and collaboration.

Establish engineering standards, best practices, and performance metrics across all manufacturing functions.

Lead capital planning, procurement, and automation initiatives, including major installations and facility expansions.

Mentor and empower managers in Maintenance, Continuous Improvement, and Manufacturing Technology, ensuring strong talent development.

Champion LEAN and Six Sigma practices to improve efficiency, safety, and quality.

Direct preventive and predictive maintenance programs to maximize uptime and reliability.

Oversee lifecycle planning for equipment, balancing modernization, automation, and replacement strategies.

Embed safety into all engineered processes, plant layouts, and automation projects, ensuring regulatory compliance (WorkSafe BC, ISO, and industry standards).

Manage budgets, capital expenditures, and resource allocation while delivering projects on time, within scope, and on budget.

Monitor and report on engineering KPIs, cost efficiency, reliability, and strategic initiatives.

Compensation & Benefits

The typical hiring range for this position is $145,000 - 185,000; the base pay is determined by market location and job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and education.

All Longboard materials are created in-house, starting from the aluminum extrusion, and ending with the finishing touches, packaging and shipping to site.
We’re also committed to engaging in third-party testing and certifications for fire safety, thermal efficiency, wind loading, product health, and environmental impact and durability testing against weathering.
