Job Summary This position is responsible for reviewing and validating evidence generated through Automated Speed Enforcement equipment (detected speed and vehicle images). This specialized role with delegated authority and certification under the Provincial Offences Act is the sole authority to exercise discretion with respect to determining if a speed related violation has occurred and may initiate charges.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Independently reviews ASE images and digital evidence to determine if a violation of the Highway 80 Traffic Act has occurred.
  • Verifies key elements of each case, including vehicle speed, image clarity, license plate legibility, time and location accuracy, registration confirmation and other factors such as road conditions, weather events, traffic or camera functionality to determine if a charge is warranted.
  • Exercises authority as a Certified Provincial Offences Officer under the Highway Traffic Act to approve and initiate charges for validated violations, ensuring legal sufficiency and evidentiary integrity.
  • Weighs different possible interpretations of an image or metadata and selects the most legally sound course of action based on training and experience.
  • Enters case information into the ASE Processing Centre's ticket and case management system in accordance with established timelines and legislation.
  • Applies expert knowledge of applicable legislation and City protocols to make determinations on complex, ambiguous or high-speed cases.
  • Exercises discretion in assessing alternative approaches to enforcement decisions while maintaining compliance with established legal and program standards.
  • Participates in the review and refinement of operational processes, Standard Operating Procedures, and quality assurance protocols by providing front-line technical feedback and analysis.
  • Works with Coordinator, ASE when compiling evidence for high-speed (Part III) violations to ensure evidentiary compliance and defensibility.
  • Prepares accurate case summaries and evidence packages, including disclosure materials for use in legal proceedings.
  • Actively participates in team meetings, training sessions, technical update sessions with vendors, and contributes feedback on system issues, processes, or observed trends to support service improvements or resolve issues.
  • Performs other duties as assigned, aligned with organizational values.

Skills And Qualifications

  • Successful completion of a college diploma in law enforcement, public administration, legal studies, or a related field or 5-years experience in a related processing environment.
  • Certification or appointment as a Provincial Offences Officer under the Provincial Offences Act (or ability to obtain upon hire).
  • 2-4 years experience in a regulatory, enforcement, legal, or evidence-processing environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply legislation to technical evidence.
  • Strong proficiency in using digital case management systems, enforcement databases, and Microsoft Office software. Working knowledge of Gtechna is considered an asset.
  • Strong written communication and report-writing skills. with an emphasis on accuracy, clarity, and professionalism.
  • Demonstrates a strong working knowledge of the Provincial Offences Act, Municipal Act, Highway Traffic Act, and relevant City of Mississauga bylaws.
  • Proven ability to manage time effectively and meet deadlines in a structed, high-volume environment.
  • Ability to work shifts, in-person between 7:00am - 11:00pm Monday through Friday.
  • A satisfactory Criminal Record Check and applicable provincial security clearance may be required.
  • Accuracy testing and report writing testing may form part of the recruitment process.

Hourly Rate/Salary: $ 69,080.00 - $ 92,107.00
