Overview
The Marketing and Events Associate (Small Business Centre) develops and implements brand marketing strategies and content for website, e-newsletter, social media and print collaterals to engage and attract small businesses. Organizes events and workshops. Provides front-line customer service, administrative, and recordkeeping support for the Waterloo Region Small Business Centre (WRSBC) and associated economic development offerings (e.g. SDG Idea Factory and Health Innovation Arena (HIA)).
(Temporary Full Time for Approximately 18 months)
Responsibilities
- Administers the WRSBC powered websites. Creates written and visual content, updates, monitors (e.g., event/workshop information, images, videos, photos) and ensures functionality of the websites to ensure a high-quality user experience.
- Manages website content, creates graphic images and ensures timely updates.
- Coordinates scheduling of workshops, meetings and events, and prepares for all events (internal and external).
- Provides front line customer service, responds to public inquiries posted in social media and email, following established procedures.
- Executes all social media posts in a consistent tone to achieve marketing goals to boost WRSBC and affiliated programming recognition and awareness in the region (e.g., Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube).
- Participates in joint marketing efforts with stakeholders across the region (Economic Development Cambridge and Waterloo, Chambers of Commerce, BIA’s networking groups).
- Event concept to completion - researches and identifies prospective speakers and facilitators for events and workshops, develops promotional collaterals.
- Confirms venues, sponsors, exhibitors, and speakers for events.
- Creates digital and print collaterals; posters, flyers, postcards for events.
- Creates and implements social media strategy for events, designs images, content and promotional schedule to engage target market for specific demographics or industry sectors.
- Designs and delivers workshops, for both basic and advanced levels of learners.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Education
- 2-year post secondary diploma in a related field (e.g. Marketing, Business, Economic Development, Advertising).
Experience
- Minimum 2 years of related experience including office administration, business, digital marketing and event planning, interactive media design, work experience in a small business.
- Experience with creating websites, social media, marketing and event practices and principles.
- Experience with creating attractive digital posters, attention-grabbing website and social media content, and creative/functional webpages to ensure a high-quality user experience.

- Knowledge of administrative processes and procedures, and customer service standards.
- Organizational skills in order to balance multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, creative writing ability.
- Interpersonal and presentation skills to conduct presentations and workshops, and respond to clients and the public.
- Skill in the use of a personal computer with the ability to use software programs such as Microsoft Office, Outlook, Adobe Acrobat (i.e. illustrator), video/photo editing software, Mail Chimp (e-newsletter tool), Wordpress, Shopify, Square, web content management. CANVA, Salesforce database and small business/event specialty software, web content management.
- Attention to detail and the ability to input information accurately and efficiently.
- Ability to organize and prioritize work effectively with minimal supervision.
- Ability to support and project values compatible with the organization and participate as an effective team member.
- Reliable with a good attitude and employment record.
