As a Sustainable Infrastructure Engineer, you will be at the forefront of transforming how our city designs, builds, and maintains its infrastructure. Your work will directly influence the sustainability of buildings, energy systems, and other critical assets, ensuring they align with our climate strategy and sustainability principles. Primary duties include:

  • Lead the Charge on Green Building Standards: Champion the City's Sustainable Building Policy, keeping it aligned with cutting-edge practices in sustainable design and construction.
  • Be a Trusted Sustainability Expert: Collaborate with diverse business units to drive initiatives that reduce emissions, promote wellness, protect ecosystems, and integrate top-tier green building certifications like Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED), WELL, Passive House, and Zero Carbon.
  • Empower Project Teams Across the City: Work hand-in-hand with project teams to embed sustainability goals into building projects - from concept to commissioning - ensuring impactful outcomes.
  • Drive Innovation in Infrastructure: Spearhead special projects that explore new technologies and approaches in buildings, energy systems, and linear infrastructure. You will lead feasibility studies, pilot programs, and master planning efforts that push the boundaries of what's possible.
  • Build Capacity for Long-Term Impact: Develop training, resources, and educational programs that equip City staff and project teams to deliver on our sustainability commitments with confidence and clarity.
  • Secure Funding for a Sustainable Tomorrow: Guide strategic investments in green infrastructure and unlock funding through grants, financing, and partnerships to bring visionary projects to life.

Qualifications

  • A degree in a related Engineering field and at least 4 years of relevant professional engineering experience obtained after receiving your P. Eng. designation and a current licensure as a Professional Engineer with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA) complete with practicing status OR licensure and practicing status by the first day of work.   • A (LEED) Accredited Professional credential would be considered an asset.
  • Experience working with project teams on building design projects (including with project managers, architects, engineers, building envelope specialists, interior designers, and landscape architects).
  • Experience in analyzing complex technical and business issues and implementing cost-effective timely solutions; coordinating, organizing and implementing projects and environmental initiatives.
  • Experience with data extraction, processing, and analytics, including the development of models, dashboards, and other tools by which to summarize and present often complex data sets.
  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills and the ability to work independently or as a member of a team and engage internal and external interested parties is essential.

Workstyle

  • This position may be eligible to work from home for at least part of the time as one of several flexible work options available to City employees. Such arrangements are based on the operational requirements of the position and employee suitability and are subject to change based on operational needs and corporate direction.

Days of Work: This position works a 5 day

work week earning 1 day off in a 3 week cycle.
