About the role

Work involving the installation, maintenance, repair, and replacement of various electrical wiring and equipment, as well as different electrical systems and devices used for street lighting, illuminated signage, and traffic lights.

The work is carried out under general supervision. The employee receives it in the form of oral and written instructions, plans or diagrams. He is required to do, in accordance with the rules of the trade, the various tasks intended to provide buildings and other municipal buildings with pipes, wiring and electrical equipment appropriate to the needs, the public road of pipes, wiring and electrical appliances necessary for street lighting and signage on public roads or others. He must be able to locate and repair defects affecting electrical circuits or devices in these areas and ensure their proper functioning.

Key Responsability

  • Installs, modifies, maintains, repairs or replaces various electrical, lighting, heating, and power systems; makes 110/220 volt, 600 volt, or 750 volt entries at different amperages in buildings, parks, grounds, and other public places
  • Install the distribution panels; set up ducts on the surface or in walls, floors, ceilings; run the wires and make the necessary connections. Install the piping for the telephone system; attach the necessary accessories;
  • Installs various electrical equipment such as motors, switches, fans, and others, and checks their operation and performs necessary repairs;
  • Installs, checks, maintains, and handles the repair of control and measuring instruments of various mechanisms or devices. Handles the maintenance and repair in the workshop or on-site of certain tools or devices such as drills, sanders, saws, or others;
  • Installs, repairs, replaces transformers, relays, circuit breakers, switches, electrical outlets, and any other device that is part of the building's electrical or lighting system;
  • . Installs, modifies, maintains, repairs, or replaces various electrical lighting or signaling systems on public roads, in parks, or other City grounds;
  • Installs, maintains, repairs, or replaces traffic light controllers and puts them back into service, repairs defective wiring, adjusts the devices in accordance with the adjustment chart, and ensures the proper functioning of synchronization equipment;
  • Installs, maintains, repairs, and replaces transformers, relays, circuit breakers, disconnect switches, clocks, distribution boxes, and others, and makes the necessary connections;
  • Carries out the installation, modification, repair, and replacement or removal of street furniture or other items such as poles, streetlights, signals or traffic lights, and others of the same kind;
  • Ensure the maintenance and proper functioning of the electrical components of viaduct pumping stations;
  • Drives and/or operates, as needed, a truck or equipment and the necessary accessories in the performance of their duties.

##Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

  • Hold a license from the Régie du Bâtiment (RBQ);
  • Hold a valid provincial Class 3 driver's license;
  • Be able to read, write, and speak French and have good knowledge of spoken English
  • Have good knowledge of the principles of electricity;
  • Good knowledge of basic concepts in electronics;
  • Good knowledge of circuits and other components;
  • Good knowledge of techniques, practices and tools used in the profession;
  • Knowledge about the risks in the profession and safety measures to be observed;
  • Skills in reading plans and interpreting the conventional signs of electrical workers;
  • Skills in the use of tools necessary for the work;
  • Skills in the use of vehicles necessary for the work to be done;
  • Skills in detecting, locating and repairing electrical faults;
  • Skills in carrying out work according to trade rules;
  • Skills in working at various heights and in access shafts.
