About the role

Research Assistants are normally students, in a University of Winnipeg undergraduate program, employed to assist with tasks related to research. Work is performed within defined guidelines and under supervision of a more senior researcher or faculty member.

Position Overview:

Drawing upon the research and transcriptions gathered through genderplay workshops in rural Manitoba, research assistants would work to create a performance piece. This is parallel research work to a larger project, with a goal to artistically and experientially disseminate research results.

Duties:

  • Assist with duties related to the production of articles, publications, reports and presentations.
    • Employee will undertake creative creation as part of an arts-based research model. Specifically, devising through embodied work and writing a theatrical production drawing on already attained research material.
  • Assist in data collection, data entry, analysis and interpretation.
    • Employee will analyse and interpret data from interviews in order to explore theatrical means of dissemination.
  • Perform routine clerical and administrative duties to support research activities.
    • Employee will help in coordinating the creation of a script, including documenting ideas and transcribing dialogue.
  • Perform other duties as required or assigned.
    • Employee may also need to meet with the research team and undertake additional skill development in the area of arts-based research or applied theatre.
    • Employee will participate in a performance of the artistic work in progress for youth and community members for feedback.

Qualifications:

  • Introduction to Theatre: Performance or equivalent theatre training.
  • Theatre Major with a focus on playwriting, performance or devised work.
  • Candidates' lived experience should relate to the project participants. Participants are youth with diverse gender and sexualities, living in rural or remote settings.

Condition(s) of Employment:

  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.

The period of work will be from July 1, 2026 - June 30, 2027 and the estimated total hours of work will be 100-125 hours.
