Project Cost Control Manager
Location: Vancouver, Canada Employment Type: Regular Full Time Workplace Type: In-Office Compensation: $130,000 - $200,000 annually
Inventa is seeking an experienced Project Cost Control Manager to join our team for the Panuco project. Reporting directly to the Project Manager, Panuco Project, this role will be pivotal in overseeing cost forecasting, reporting, and controls across all project elements. The successful candidate will ensure financial accuracy and efficiency, supporting the project's progression from planning through to construction and beyond. This position is based in Vancouver, BC, with significant travel and on-site presence required in Mazatlán, Mexico, particularly as the project advances to the construction phase.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and maintain comprehensive cost forecasting models to predict project expenditures and identify potential variances. Prepare detailed cost reports, including variance analysis, trend tracking, and financial projections, for presentation to senior management and stakeholders.
Manage cost controls for all aspects of the project scope, including
Owners' costs (e.g., overheads, permitting, and administrative expenses). Engineering and Procurement packages, ensuring alignment with budgets and timelines. Construction contracts, monitoring progress payments, change orders, and claims. Equipment and materials supply purchase orders, tracking procurement efficiencies and supplier performance. Lead the implementation of cost management systems and tools to enhance accuracy and real-time reporting. Conduct regular audits and reviews to ensure compliance with financial controls, contractual obligations, and company policies. Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including engineering, procurement, construction, and finance, to integrate cost data and support decision-making. Lead a small team of cost control professionals, primarily based in Mazatlán, Sinaloa, providing guidance, performance management, and professional development. Motivate and train junior employees, promoting skill development and career growth to build a high-performing team.
Qualifications and Experience
Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Engineering, or a related field; professional certifications (e.g., CPA, PMP, or equivalent) are highly desirable. Proven track record in cost controls within similar mining projects, with a strong understanding of the mining industry's financial dynamics. Preferably at least 10 years of experience in cost management roles, including hands-on involvement in project forecasting, budgeting, and reporting. Demonstrated leadership skills with experience managing small teams in multicultural or remote settings. Ability to instill corporate values, motivate staff, and mentor younger professionals to achieve team objectives. Proficiency in cost management software (e.g., Primavera, SAP, or similar) and advanced Excel skills for data analysis. Spanish language skills are desirable to facilitate effective communication with local teams and stakeholders in Mexico. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, with the ability to present complex financial information clearly. Willingness to travel extensively and relocate temporarily to Mazatlán during key project phases.
