About the role

Purpose Responsible for the completion of all plumbing/pipefitting work as assigned by the Supervisor including completion of all installations, repairs, inspections, modifications and maintenance to the company and legislated standards. Work is performed on all rolling stock, buildings and facilities.

This position is deemed Safety Critical and pre-employment testing will be required. Final candidates must successfully pass a safety critical medical exam and will undergo medical monitoring as prescribed by Transport Canada.  This position requires you to periodically access an active railway area where impaired performance could result in a significant incident affecting the health and safety of team members, guests, the public, property, or the environment.

Key Areas of Accountability

  • Installing, maintaining, testing, troubleshooting and repairing equipment on rail cars
  • Construction and renovation plumbing as required
  • Yard and building maintenance repairs
  • Plumbing repairs and installations
  • EVAC toilet maintenance and repair
  • Preventative maintenance on various systems and equipment
  • Monthly audits of potable water systems, sanitizing and winterizing railcars as scheduled
  • Nightly Mechanical Inspections as required
  • Conducting preventive maintenance programs
  • Partaking in involvement with on the job training
  • Traveling on the company’s equipment, as necessary, to locations where technical expertise is required
  • Completing all work/projects as assigned within time guidelines
  • Recommending measures to improve work quality, productivity and safety
  • Being a team player and a positive role model of Company goals and values

Qualifications Education, Certification & Licenses

  • Secondary school education
  • Completion of a 4-year Plumber/Pipefitter apprenticeship with a minimum 2 years related work experience
  • Red Seal Qualification
  • Familiarity with railcar equipment such as Evac Toilet systems, Harbart Dish Sanitizers and Rational Combi-steamer cook ovens is an asset
  • Valid Driver’s License

  • Strong attention to detail
  • Understand and comply with all safety standards and procedures related to the specific job
  • Identify safety hazards and reporting unsafe work conditions to the Health & Safety Committee
  • Take necessary precaution with regards to managing workplace safety
  • Understanding and complying with all company safety policies, procedures and rules
  • Reporting all accidents and near miss incidents
  • Cooperating with workplace inspections and any investigations

Work Environment

  • Rail industrial site
  • Occasional travel may be required
  • Rail industrial site- indoor/outdoor working environment
  • 24/7 operation that may require varied work schedules
