The Community Engagement team is a part of the Fundraising and Communications Department at Fred

Victor and is responsible for the Volunteer Program, all Fundraising Events, and support of Community

Events.

What You Will Do:
Reporting to the Senior Manager of Community Engagement and working collaboratively with other

members of the Fred Victor Fundraising and Communications Team, the Taste of Regent Park Coordinator

is passionate about community events. You will bring together vendors, neighbours, volunteers and staff

to create a Market like no other.

Taste of Regent Park is a renowned community market event that brings residents together to access affordable

food, build social cohesion and support local entrepreneurs. The Taste of Regent Park runs every Wednesday

evening (5 - 8 pm) for 9 weeks July to September. The Taste of Regent Park Coordinator will be responsible for

coordinating all aspects of the weekly market while supervising a team of staff and volunteers.

Taste of Regent Park

  • Plan and execute all aspects of the “Taste of Regent Park” event including plan layout, safety and logistics
  • Ensure smooth execution on each event day, including overseeing vendor operation, partner agencies,

entertainers, and set up and take down of all equipment

  • Coordinate pay-what-you-can ‘market bucks’ model for food access at the event

  • Through creativity and innovation, proactively identify new ways to improve the event experience

  • Establish and maintain relationships with new and existing partners such as local resident vendors,

agencies, grassroots groups and entertainers to participate in the market

  • Measure and evaluate program impact through surveys and tracking, establishing structure to receive

community feedback

  • Represent and promote the market
  • Collaborating with Marketing and Communications staff, develop and deliver a plan to promote the event
  • Create and maintain partnerships with key community agencies as well as other stakeholders
  • Monitor and meet revenue and expense targets within the Taste of Regent Park budget

General

  • Participate in learning networks and professional associations
  • Attend supervision meetings, staff meetings, trainings and agency functions as appropriate
  • Assist with the logistics of Fred Victor fundraising, stewardship and cultivation events such as Fred’s Walk

(June 4th)

  • Assist with external rentals of park equipment, flexibility on evenings and weekends may be required
  • Other duties as required

What You Bring to the Team:

  • Degree from a relevant university program is an asset (equivalencies will be considered)
  • Minimum 3 years of experience with community engagement, event coordination, and/or community

outreach

  • Demonstrated success in managing community events
  • Experience working in communities where people face economic and social barriers and marginalization
  • Experience supervising staff and volunteers
  • Experience in engaging diverse communities through volunteerism and community leadership;

demonstrated capacity to lead, motivate and coach

What Sets You Apart:

  • Familiarity with the Regent Park neighborhood, ability to speak a language relevant to the community an

asset (Bengali, Mandarin, Tamil, Vietnamese, Somali or other)

  • Creative, innovative thinker able to inspire and engage others
  • Demonstrated commitment to food justice and anti-racism/anti-oppression
  • Experience planning outdoor events and/or markets an asset
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
  • Detail-oriented and excellent administrative skills
  • Ability to keep composure under pressure and maintain professionalism in high-stress circumstances
  • Demonstrated research and evaluation skills
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office
  • Experience with Square POS systems
  • Experience with project management tools (Microsoft Planner)

Working Conditions:

Event Days can often be long and physically demanding. On Taste of Regent Park Market days, you will work

outside in the park where the event is held and might experience a variety of weather conditions. The Taste
of Regent Park Coordinator must be available every Wednesday evening from July 8th – September 2nd

Compensation and Benefits:

  • For the Taste of Regent Park Coordinator, Fred Victor offers an hourly rate between $32.63 - $36.03
  • 7% Vacation Pay
