The Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) is seeking a detail-oriented and inquisitive Operational Performance Analyst (‘Analyst’) to join our Operational Planning, Priorities and Performance Branch (OPB). The successful candidate will bring strong analytical skills and a natural drive to investigate complex data environments, ask thoughtful questions, and uncover meaningful insights. With a solid understanding of data structures and programming, the Analyst will play a key role in identifying opportunities, mitigating risks, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives across the organization. Working closely with the Senior Operational Performance Analyst, this role will contribute to impactful projects that enhance decision-making, strengthen operational efficiency, and advance the AGCO’s commitment to effective, modern, and responsive regulation.
In this role, the successful candidate will:
- Analyze operational, compliance, and retailer data to identify trends, issues, and indicators of regulatory concern, and to inform risk assessments and operational decisions.
- Develop and modify queries to extract data from new and legacy systems, ensuring accurate and actionable performance measurement and reporting.
- Contribute to process optimization by applying data-driven solutions and defining metrics to measure and evaluate performance outcomes.
- Draw conclusions from data analysis and develop solutions for implementation, including technical improvements, software/system enhancements, dashboards, and key performance indicators.
- Engage stakeholders to address issues, implement corrective actions, and support effective collaboration across teams.
- Identify gaps and propose improvements that enhance the branch’s and agency’s assessment of compliance performance and operational effectiveness.
- Lead reporting efforts and support team members in applying a continuous improvement mindset and process improvement framework.
The ideal candidate will have:
- Demonstrated expertise in data reporting within a regulatory environment through a combination of education and/or work experience.
- Foundational knowledge of performance-measurement and evaluation techniques and methodologies.
- Experience with business intelligence and data analytics solutions (e.g., Power BI, Tableau, SQL), including working with complex datasets, data visualization, and creating dashboards and scorecards
- Understanding of systems (e.g., files, data fields, business rules) to assess impacts of new initiatives and determine information availability for performance measurement and reporting purposes.
- Strong analytical and statistical capabilities.
- Knowledge of Acts, Regulations, and policies related to licenses, registrations, permits, and authorizations.
- General understanding of the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FOI) to ensure reporting complies with legislation and protects the AGCO.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to convey technical information clearly and prepare analysis reports.
- The successful candidate must be eligible to work in Canada and will be subject to a criminal background check.
