Job Title: Field Engineering Manager Reporting directly to the Construction Director, the Field Engineering Manager will play a pivotal role on the Eskay Creek Project, with accountability for supporting construction execution by resolving technical queries, managing field modifications and ensuring constructability of design deliverables.
The individual will manage a team that will provide on site technical support, working closely with the construction team, contractors and the liaison between the field and the home office teams. The Field Engineering Manager will be responsible to setup work processes and manage the flow of engineering information, including RFIs, design clarifications and as-built documentation. As part of their daily duties, this individual will participate in project leadership meetings and contribute to strategic planning and risk mitigation.
Responsibilities (including But Not Limited To) Engineering Information Management
- Manage the flow of engineering information, including RFIs, design clarifications, redlines and as-built documentation.
- Review and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and survey data.
- Coordinate the preparation of technical work instructions and ensure alignment with project execution plans.
- Oversee the development and implementation of site-specific engineering procedures and quality documentation.
Construction and Site Support
- Participate in site inspections to ensure compliance with design, quality, and safety standards.
- Support construction execution by resolving technical queries, managing field modifications, and ensuring constructability of design deliverables.
- Collaborate with contractors and engineer of record (EOR) to resolve technical issues.
- Support the monitoring and reporting on construction progress, identifying risks and delays.
Procurement and Contracts
- Support procurement and contract teams with technical evaluations and vendor interface.
- Assist with quantity tracking, cost control, and change order documentation.
Planning and Reporting
- Provide input for forecasting, planning, and scheduling.
- Provide inputs into daily, weekly and monthly reports.
Leadership and Collaboration
- Participate in project leadership meetings and contribute to strategic planning and risk mitigation.
- Lead and mentor on-site engineering and document control personnel.
All other duties as reasonably assigned.
The Ideal Candidate
Education / Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in engineering
- P.Eng registration with EGBC is preferred.
Experience / Skills
- A minimum of 5+ years mining experience with prior experience in similar Field Engineering Manager roles
- Experience in managing multiple contractors and working closely with internal and external stakeholders
- Strong analytical, problem-solving skills and comfortable making key decisions and recommendations.
- Experience in managing workflows and organizing engineering documentation
- Well organized and able to communicate clearly and effectively
- Collaborative team player with an exceptionally proactive mindset.
- Capability to work in a self-directed manner and possess good time management skills.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills to provide daily, weekly and monthly reporting
- Highly self-motivated and ability to work with minimal guidance (Must be self-directed).
- Must be able to work a rotational schedule in a remote mining camp.
Work Location & Conditions This is a site-based camp job at Eskay Creek Mine site. This position involves working at a remote mine site on a 15 days on/13 days off rotation.
The Eskay Creek Revitalization Project is located within the Coast Mountains of Northwestern British Columbia and Tahltan Territory. Ground transportation will be provided from local communities to the Eskay Creek Site facilities. For those applicants located elsewhere in western Canada, flight transportation from major urban centers will be provided to the Terrace or Smithers airports, from which shuttles will provide transportation to the Eskay Creek Camp facilities. Travel time and expenses are subject to Skeena’s Travel Policy.
There will be exposure to extreme temperatures in all seasons including working outdoors in snow, mud, ice, and water conditions, walking to and from different locations on uneven ground, prolonged periods of standing and physically handling/lifting/moving heavy objects.
All Applicants MUST be legally entitled to work in Canada. Priority hiring consideration will be given to Indigenous Nations members who reside within the territories our projects are located.
Compensation The expected salary range for this position is CA$130,000- CA$150,000 , in line with the competitive job market for such roles carried out in British Columbia. Salary ranges are guidelines and any job offer received by a candidate will be determined on a number of factors such as relevant education, training, and/or experience.
